how do you separate artists' behaviour from their art?

Not original I know. Wonder if there's any knowledgeable philosophers/artists/? out there who can suggest maybe something to read on this.

Thinking about Polanski... I hate what he did. i love his films. He's only one example of course.

Then I read the obituary of Susana Walton, the widow of Sir William Walton. Buried in the middle of the piece was the line that on honeymoon, he'd informed his new wife that he didn't want children...and that when she became pregnant, he insisted on an abortion.

I'm so shocked by that. And yet, she was a devoted wife, apparently happy, with an extremely strong personality.

It doesn't affect me much as I don't listen to Walton on a regular basis, although I've enjoyed his music as a singer.

Nobody's going to be perfect. But where do you draw the line?

I know. I think Gill Sans is a beautiful font but Eric Gill, hooo-weee (odd example, sorry)
