Lol, you didn't leave them in the Uk this summer? I'm afraid I've no sun hats !

Bucharest · 20/04/2010 14:25

Change of season???? It's bloody chilly down here!

I see the air crisis is almost over, flights getting back to normal now, so Sui should be able to get over soon!

(was rather at the threads asking if schools might be closed, last time I looked, people didn't tend to fly their kids to school in the morning.....)

Francagoestohollywood · 20/04/2010 17:25

lol Bucharest!

OP posts:
giveitago · 20/04/2010 18:04

Oh but Bucharest many breakfast and afterschools clubs in london shut as there are no teachers to run them.

I don't have this problem YET - but ds was off nursery on first day back not due to the fact he's out of the country but due the fact diddums fell over yesterday and has decided he cannot walk - I've just taken him to a&e and they say he's fine so he's pulling a fast one.

I have friends stuck out in the middle east and they have unsypmathetic employers - just glad I didn't go to mil's this easter as I'd be stuck with her.

DS will got to nursery tomorrow I cannot carry 3 stone around ta.

Francagoestohollywood · 20/04/2010 18:28

ojh poor ds. I hope he feels better tomorrow giveitago.

OP posts:
giveitago · 20/04/2010 18:42

Franca - he's FINE - he's trying it on big time. Tomorrow he's going to nursery - he loves it and he'll have fun

Tomorrow I'm ferrying around dh for his bloody gum treatment and I refuse to have both the men in my life trying it on so ds at nursery and I'll deal with dh and his infernal gum disease brought on by his non brushing of teeth. LOL.

Lovely weather here today.

Rosa · 20/04/2010 18:53

Its quite mild up here at the moment . Glad your ds is ok .
Found the hats don't know why I bothered she only refuses to wear them......

busynotbored · 20/04/2010 20:25

Franca - when she's in US the airline pay for everything, in London she rents a room just whilst she's there for a few nights and up until recently she did rent a place in Sicily with her boyfriend but they've just broke up .
giveitago - DD is a HUGE drama queen !!! Its mean, but sometimes when she's really giving it a performance I tell her if its so bad we better take her to A&E ! If she is playing up 99% of the time she'll pull it together and tell me she can carry on !

Bucharest · 21/04/2010 07:54

lol- there was a thread on here yesterday talking about the fact that zillions of UK teachers who, guarda caso, were soooooo poor (diddums) before Easter they were going to Scarborough in a caravan, are suddenly "stranded in Albufeira"......

Off to teach friend how to use ebay. I may be some time.....

Rosa · 21/04/2010 14:21

Well nipotina is on a flight from Larnaca only 4 that have gone there today so sis is rather happy - they are stranded in Spain until next Sat only annoyed at the weather!
Its lovely and warm here today really nice.Had a whinge at the nursery today as children go out and play 12-13.30 there is some shade but not all the playground - I said they should make some more artificial shade as anybody would say its not good for them. The capo suore said should they stop children playing outside? - NO I said just do it more sensibly maybe change the hours. Or put a telone up of something. SHe then said there are 3 plants in the play area - Plus the sun is not that strong ( dd came home red faced on Mon)yes but the slides and other toys are in the sun ! I smother dd in factor 50 first thing and piu avanti I will try to persuade her to wear a hat. But is it me being OTT or all all the dermos / docs/etc saying this for fun !
Ok Dd is more pale skinned due to her origins but am I being OTT ???????

Bucharest · 21/04/2010 14:39

YANBOTT but they will never understand that.
I just love the whole you can't go out in rain/wind/cold or you die (especially if sweat is involved) and yet the minute there is a bit of sun, it's bodies out and it's good for you! Totally arse over tit. I remember dd's paediatra when she was 7 months old being horrified at me that I wasn't taking her to the sea all day every day. I mean, you've seen my FB photos, do dd and I look like the sun does us good?
I just chant "tanned skin is damaged skin" at everyone and they look at me like am loon-mad-furriner again

Obviously sunlight/vitamin D blah blah is good for you (IIRC for about 15 mins a day) I think people misunderstand that and think lying roasting in it is the same. I think apart from the hat, and continuing to put suncream on, you're banging your head against that cultural wall again! (it's well hot here today, after me moaning about the cold yesterday, and dd's class have been in the garden all morning too, so I shall be putting cream on her in the morning!)

busynotbored · 21/04/2010 16:13

Rosa - u are NOT being OTT at all. In the kids nursery in Sicily they were was no outside play area anyway but on trips to the beach they had umbrellas, sun cream, hats the lot. here at the schools in Liverpool they have covered areas which protect the kids from both the sun and rain, moreso the rain !!
Bucharest is right, always baffled me the no going out in wind but ok to roast in hot sun.

Francagoestohollywood · 21/04/2010 20:29

Hello, lovely day here too.
Rosa, no, you are not being OTT, and I think you were 100% right to point out that it'd be nicer to have more shade in the garden.
But I fear it might be a lost cause. I consider myself quite responsible, but I'm still a bit lax when stripping out in the sun is involved .
For instance, instinctively I wouldn't worry about the April sunshine, but I do understand why you'd be worried about your dd's pale skin.

I'm starting to feel tired. This morning before school I was making ds cheese on toast (his fav breakfast at the moment) and put the toast WITH its blue plastic plate in the oven. It melted

Sputnik · 21/04/2010 21:23

Not ott Rosa, but I think it is also true that it is less of an issue for people with tyically "Italian" skin, and people are less aware.
I will never forget soemone commenting to me about DD when she was 1 "oh, she doesn't have much of a tan does she!" Luckily both our DCs inherited their Dad's complexion rather than mine.

Anyway good news at Casa Sputnik, we took DS to the neurologist today and he thinks he is perfectly fine, apart from the speech delay. Very happy

Francagoestohollywood · 21/04/2010 21:28

Oh lovely, lovely news Sputnik . So happy for you

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 21/04/2010 21:32

"always baffled me the no going out in wind but ok to roast in hot sun" ... It's deffo a question of abitudine. To me the wind is the enemy, the sun the spring of life

OP posts:
Sputnik · 21/04/2010 21:32

just wish I could get the bugger to sleep now!

Sputnik · 21/04/2010 21:33

I like a bit of wind to blow the cobwebs away, presonally.

Francagoestohollywood · 21/04/2010 21:38

Didn't he watche something on youtube that send him to sleep pretty quickly?

I like a gentle, mediterranean breeze. More then that I start to tense my sho9ulders to fight the cold and get a stiff neck!

OP posts:
Sputnik · 21/04/2010 21:43

Ya wimp, ye!
Yes that was Beau Travail. He is asleep now anyway. Might try that next time.

Great Great News Sputnik!!!!

Rosa no OTT at all but yes to the banging the head to a big cultural wall. Keep banging it, more sun awareness is much needed.

Sputnik · 21/04/2010 22:00

Hey Pippi I was just thinking of you. What do you think of this?

Sputnik · 21/04/2010 22:03

It was you that liked the Falling Water House, right? Or am I thinking of McN.
Ok, not on the same level but I wouldn't turn my nose up.

Francagoestohollywood · 21/04/2010 22:12

You are right I think it was Pippi. I'm off to bed with my lovely lovely book "Out of Egypt"
