Oh you could stop in Bonassola, it's lovely.
Or Monterosso, which is one of the 5 terre.

DelGirl · 30/06/2010 21:27

thanks, they both look wonderful. I'm just wondering if I will get caught up there for too long and end up getting to my next destination in the middle of the night. May save it for a weekend break, as we'll be able to do that y'know, living in Italy an'all

DelGirl · 30/06/2010 21:28

so many places on my must see list, I will just have to stay for good to see them all!

Francagoestohollywood · 01/07/2010 09:05

Ooooh our flat is an oven

BananaGio · 01/07/2010 12:13

ours too Franca, am sitting inside with blinds and windows closed and the lights on. Feel like am in prison!

Sputnik · 01/07/2010 12:52

That's one good thing about our Rome place, the sun doesn't hit til quite late and we have those roll down tende things on the balcony which can block it, they make it darker but not so much you have to put the lights on!

Anyway I'm not there now, it's hot outside here but nice breeze through the house. Shall I invite you all up? Might motivate me to clean.

Francagoestohollywood · 01/07/2010 13:01

Oh those roll up/down tende are excellent.
Every room in our house gets the sun all morning. Except from the living room, which gets the sun from now to sunset. Hoooooooooooot.

Yes, do invite us Sput . We are off to le marche tomorrow. I hope the A/C on the train works!

OP posts:
BananaGio · 01/07/2010 18:00

we have the tende on our balcony but unfortunately because of the wire barrier contraption we put up to stop ds falling we cant reach the hooks to use it!
Sput am on the next train if this weather continues. Enjoy le marche Franca, how long are you there for?

Francagoestohollywood · 01/07/2010 19:56

I think I'll stay there until tuesday, then come back to Milan (leaving the children with my mother and my aunt) as I have various things that need doing and then I'll go back again over the weekend, for another week.

Hello!

I hope you still remember me lol! I was on LI until the beginning of the year when I started my new job and then disappeared...

I am sorry about that - but I found the last few months quite tough - the job was initially much harder than I thought (OK now), plus I felt guilty being on MN because I felt I had to spend all the time not at work with DD and DH as I was working so hard... To cut a story short I am slowly regaining a normal work-life balance and hence I am back .

I am sorry I missed what I am sure were really good discussions re: UK elections, football etc etc, but I read the brief summary above... Surely I can be back?

BTW - I am not sure whether this is still topical, but Sky Italy will be showing the Wire apparently. McNulty in Italian anyone?

Rosa · 02/07/2010 20:25

Hi Minerva yes I remember you glad the job is settling down ok . How old is your dd now ?
Franca have fun in le marche and get some fresco .... Its humid here but we have ac which is good. Minirosa hates her swimming ring but has taken to launching herself at me in the baby pool but only if I am standing up . She is too small for armbands yet so not sure what we are going to do as da sola con 2 is rather hectic but dd1 is doing well with arm bands to be honest and has no fear .....
DH says Venice is unbearable . He had a meeting with bulders/ elctricians/ etc they are saying underfloor heating but I want wood / parquet and from what I can see its a no go. We won't be having cheap or expensive just middle of the road. Thing is not sure who to believe . I hate not knowing enough I want a library as with the web you can go on and on and on !!!!!

BananaGio · 02/07/2010 20:41

Hi Minerva, welcome back. Glad things picking up.
Rosa am so of your aircon. It is sooooo humid tonight. And envious of your pool, enjoy! You too Franca.
Will have to check out Wire in Italian. Still not progressed on series 4, is banned til football's finished.

Rosa · 05/07/2010 12:53

How does a 20 mth old get a cold in 35 degree heat? Grrrrrrr

Sputnik · 05/07/2010 15:01

Don't know Rosa but DS got a cold last week too. Actually both mine got more colds in spring/summer this year than in the winter.

Welcome back Minerva, glad things are getting less hectic for you.

I had a panic last night when I though DH had gone to Africa with our chiavetta, luckily I found it this morning. I passed a whole evening without internet though, I decided to rearrange the furniture around 11.30.

DelGirl · 05/07/2010 18:18

lol . When do you head back to Sabina Sputnik? Are you staying for the summer?

Can you tell me, (who is ignorant of most things Italian thus far), how the addresses work? I've been given the full address for the place i'm renting but google doesn't recognise it, only part of it but I can't be certain it has come up with the right place I would ask the agent but they've gone away for a week. I know it's in the next town to dd's scuola beginning with C and I think it may be on the main road through from C to C, but the name of that road seems to exist in other towns too such as PM. Does that make any sense? . In any event, i'm happy that i'm not too far from town but it would be quite nice to know where lol.

How long is dh away for? dd says hi to your dd and ds.

Sputnik · 05/07/2010 21:02

I'm there now Delgirl, thank goodness as it's really hot in Rome and we still don't have mosquito nets in all the rooms so nights are a toss up between roasting and getting eaten. Here it's still hot in the afternoon but mornings and evenings are ok. Will be going back to Rome 1 or 2 nights a week most of the summer though, and to the UK for 10 days end of July.

Google sometimes doesn't have all the street names so I shouldn't worry, but I just looked at that listing you sent and there's a map, maybe you missed it. If you zoom out you can see it's not between C and C but I think on the main road out of C towards PM. Probably a handier location.

DelGirl · 05/07/2010 21:23

Yes I saw that link but google comes up with the other road. Either location is fine but the one between c and c is a just a bit closer to the village and nearer neighbours which may be better for dd. Re mosquito nets, i'm assuming they're a given in the place i've rented as it's new. Gawd, talk about moving to another country on a wing and a prayer lol .

Your summer plans sound great. Has dd finished now then? I thought they followed the UK hols, though some have broken up now. My dd has another 3 weeks yet.

Sputnik · 05/07/2010 21:32

They do except in the summer, it's too hot to go to school! They shorten easter holidays and skip summer half term.
I wouldn't assume the new place has mosquito nets but it shouldn't be a problem come septmber. You can always fit temporary ones yourself.

DelGirl · 05/07/2010 21:59

I will do thanks for the tip. I'm hoping they have the built in ones like you have, if not it will be the 1st thing on my list to get.

BananaGio · 06/07/2010 08:32

I found last year the mozzies got worse around Sept/Oct. Dont know if they sensed the day of their death was approaching or if the disinfestation treatment we have in our condominio was wearing off but they became rampant! We have one of those plug in, ultra violet light thingies and our entertainment this week while watching the footie and The Wire has been to laugh Dr Evil style when there is a flash and sizzle as another one bites the dust. Vile vile creatures. Took ds down to the roundabout near us last night and in the time it took me to polish off a grattachecca I was bitten 10 times!!!!!!!!!!
How's dd Rosa?

DelGirl · 06/07/2010 09:06

o'eck, I hope there are some nets. Not just for the mosquito's but flies/anything with more than 2 legs too. I'm sure we'll manage with some diy stuff if not. That's all that is in db's place at the mo and that works well.

Yes hope your dd is ok Rosa, must be miserable to have a cold in the heat.

DelGirl · 06/07/2010 09:08

ouch at being bitten 10 times. I have so much to look forward too

minervaitalica · 06/07/2010 09:25

No aircon or zanzariere for us so things are getting miserable - could not sleep last night sigh... Almost 2YO DD is sweaty all the bloody time and pleads "piscina" every second (the small plastic variety btw).

I had forgotten how hot Italy got in the summer...

Sputnik · 06/07/2010 13:36

Yes there is a reason everyone heads to the sea or mountains. Minerva get to a ferramenta and check out the net kits.
Our area of Rome is pretty infested, SIL is nearby and has a nice garden but it's nearly unusable in july/august. On the street outside our house if you park near a drain you are liable to get eaten alive in the time it takes to get in or out of your car, and if you're not careful the car fills up too. Luckily we are 3 floors up and most of them stay at ground level.
It wasn't too bad until the zanzare tigri turned up a few years ago.
