hello, ciao, etc

Penthesileia · 26/06/2010 10:46

Bucharest! No words to describe my horror!

Avoid, avoid, avoid.

giveitago · 26/06/2010 14:48

Bucharest - it could only happen to you. OMG.

If your daughter thinks she's a stalker then she's a stalker. Possibly she's trying to start up some expats club - I'd avoid or you'll get the same loopy reputation. I have a few mummy stalkers from the nursery and I turn off my phone. They are lovely, I just cannot be available 24/7. But they certainly don't show me the product of the menstruation. Oh gosh.

So houses being built, kitchens fitted and air con being installed. How lovely.

OOooh holiday's with friends sounds fabulous. When we go to mils ds will see other kids this time as alot of dh's community are going there at the same time. Plus it's tomato season and mil's tomatoes bloody great and more choice of veg so I can eat.

And, I possibly have some good news to share - I hope so at least. Dh's gp has basically told him you stop eating animal fats right now and loose 3 stone, and lay off the pasta and lay off the booze or you risk having a heart attack. He's in one of the top percentiles of risk.

I've taking control of his diet. He's not had a drop of wine for the last 3 days and the change in his character is amazing - we actually had a morning together which is like a normal family.

My eating is much easier now as it's just pulses and veggies which is my natural way and no pasta or bread (I cannot digest flour at all) - so all good stuff. Good for all of us and I'm wondering whether his awful behaviour is influenced by booze?

I'm really hoping so as today was such a joy after 3-4 solid years of shite. No, it doesn't make mil any less manipulative and I'm not saying that life will be wonderful, but hopefully regaining his health and not drinking will give him more clarity of thought. That's good for me and ds and it's also good for him (he seemed optimistic and happy for once).

Also today was the first time he didn't sleep in until 12.30pm . He went to bed at a normal time and woke up at a normal time. And spent time with ds.

Fingers crossed everyone. Bloody hell, it's made a difference to our day.

Hope you all having a great weekend. We're off to enjoy the weather.

Sputnik · 26/06/2010 16:25

That's great about your DH and the drinking Giveitago, hope things will improve for you.

about your stalker Buch, hopefully she'll find someone else to latch on to while you're away. I like the weather ike this too.

Penthe glad your house is progressing, do you have a moving-in date?

D I get some kind of medal for surviving 2 kid's parties in 1 day yesterday? I ought to.

Bucharest · 26/06/2010 16:56

Good on your dh, GIAG, for listening to the GP and trying. It can't be easy to give up both foody things and booze at the same time....here's hoping the great days continue for you! Your MIL won't stop being manipulative, it's in her genes I reckon... as I type this I can hear the hellish harridan downstairs (who I hide from when she comes in the summer time- whenever she sees you she rows about something- last year it was geranium petals causing her husband to break his neck) screeching at her DIL (who seems a bit of a wimp in all honesty) and the grandkids. "Papa se ne va, e ti lascia qua'con la nonna, la nonna" (what is it with all this "la nonna" at the end of every sentence. Is it a southern thing? You know:

"Vieni qua la nonna" (Nonna to kid)
"Non correre che sudi la nonna" (Nonna to kid)

It's like a nervous tic. My stalker does it with "mamma"

"Dai, mamma, fai il bravo"
"Vuoi la merenda mamma"

I'm looking round for some invisible person she's talking to all the time.

Sent dp out to forage for food, now need to sort out where (online) I can watch the Ingerlund match tomorrow. ITV.com I believe are showing it.

Francagoestohollywood · 27/06/2010 20:54

Lol lol lol Bucharest : "Vieni qui nonna", it is quite typical of southern dialects (also ammamma)

GIVEITGO, good news! I'll keep my fingers crossed for your dh and your family. Good on him for listening to the GP and starting on the diet/no alcohol.

So sorry for the UK. I will now support Argentina. Off to read the daily mail!

OP posts:
Sputnik · 27/06/2010 21:03

I hear quite a few people here doing the nonna/mamma thing.
Went to the beach today then here. Amazing place and well worth a visit if any of you are ever in the area. DD loved it (DS unfortunately was asleep), under 7's get in free too.

Francagoestohollywood · 27/06/2010 21:22

Oh wow! I think I've heard of that place before, it looks amazing!
It's getting seriously hot... uffa.
I'm sorry for mexico, as much as I love maradona

OP posts:
Sputnik · 27/06/2010 21:28

Yes, a really incredible place. Will definitely be going back, it's only a bit more than an hour from Rome and nice beaches round there too.

Francagoestohollywood · 27/06/2010 21:50

Rome is close to some really fabolous places... grrrrrr

OP posts:
Sputnik · 27/06/2010 22:34

Ah come on, Milano is pretty cool too, no?

Sputnik · 27/06/2010 22:36

Actually I have to go back in the near future as I carefully recharged my camera battery then forgot to take it, argh. I took a few with SIL's camera but it's not that great.

Francagoestohollywood · 28/06/2010 11:51

Ups sorry, I disappeared to watch the ending of a program on the strage di Ustica. Bad mistake as Lutwak and De Michelis made my blood boil, grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Yes, Milan is OK, it's my home town and I'm quite attatched to it. And it's near some very good mountains. But Rome is different, no? And closer to Tuscany, Umbria and other beautiful places like Ventotene, Ischia etc etc etc

OP posts:
Rosa · 28/06/2010 13:33

Urgh Buch at the stalker I would have probably said ohh look they missed a bit . Then again I can't not tell someone that they have a labelshowing when its 'supposed to be'
Well we made it ...left after lunch as it was a bit cloudy and was a good move as no traffic. I haven't stopped between shopping , sorting out dds etc and when dh said he couldn't take 2 to the beach this am I said ok fine you do the floors and I will go. So left him with the velleda..... DD ( darling) then said daddy have had lots of fun with mummy . Minirosa is looking as if she needs her morning nap again at the beach as she is knackered and grouchy however its early stages yet. She settled in ok but I can't go 10 paces away when we are out but early days.
Sput that place looks lovely. We have acqualandia , gomma puma ( bouncy place) on the list but the local luna park opens at 8pm and unless miracles happen the dds will not be up to it.Its gettingf hot as well here . But have put the ac on for nap time.
LOL at Buch and the gatorade . When in vce I iron in knickers between 2 doorways to get aria and with the spray its one on me and one on the shirt !
Catch up with u all soon
GIAG good about dh long may it last .....

Sputnik · 28/06/2010 15:54

I have a fab ironing solution: I don't do it.
DH's work shirts are all non iron ones, the rest seems to do ok dried on a hanger. I only iron stuff for ebay.
Glad you've arrived safe and sound Rosa, I like your response to your DH! Hope he did the floors properly.

BananaGio · 28/06/2010 16:16

at your stalker Buch. GIAG glad DH may have found a solution.
Rosa have lovely time.
I have worlds biggest ironing pile keep adding to and never do. Too hot! Too lazy!
Went to lake again on Sat, am big lake convert-much less casino than mare for a day. Prefer mare for longer periods but if just going for the day then is ideal. Had my primo bagno, twas lovely.

Francagoestohollywood · 28/06/2010 16:54

Ohhhh which lake do you go to Gio?

Rosa, have a lovely time al mare!

I used to love doing the ironing in the Uk as I did it watching discovery health or other silly progams (like come dine with me). Impossible here, as I don't have sky and Italian tv is too crap to bear...

BananaGio · 28/06/2010 19:06

Lago di Bracciano Franca, half hour on train from our local station. Is lovely (though not a patch on your lakes). I envy you in Milan with that.

Francagoestohollywood · 28/06/2010 20:54

Oh no, I'm sure lago di bracciano is lovely! Our lakes are off limits, too much traffic to get there! (mind you, I used to go to lago maggiore with my paternal grandmother as a kid, on the train. She used to claim the isole borromee were hers, and she gave one each to her grandchildren. I had the small one, with just a tree on it and a little house

OP posts:
Sputnik · 28/06/2010 21:41

Ah that's cute Franca.
Bracciano I know it well we were not so far from there when we lived in the Viterbese. Perhaps we should have a lakeside meet up one of these days seeing as we can't seem to get together in Rome.

Francagoestohollywood · 28/06/2010 21:46

Have you 2 not met yet? It's the metropoli tentacolare!!! I often find it difficult to leave our quartiere!

OP posts:
DelGirl · 28/06/2010 22:28

ciao a tutti.

Apologies in advance for only frequenting this thread when i'm in need of something

Hope you are all ok and I promise to be on mn alot more as soon as i'm settled in Italy (you'll never get rid of me then lol)

I've posted in the au-pair/nanny section as basically i'm looking for an italian au pair to come over to the uk for the summer hols. A, to help with dd whilst I sort the house for moving and b, to converse with dd in Italian so she has some more basics before moving. I just thought one of you may know of someone who wants to come over for a working hol.

I live on the south coast and they would have their own bedroom (of course) and share a bathroom with dd.

thanks very much.

Sputnik, I arrive on the 9th of September, assuming the journey goes to plan. I expect you'll be in Rome then so will have to join me for a bottle of Prosecco when you return

Francagoestohollywood · 29/06/2010 08:58

Hi delgirl, glad things are moving along

I'll give a thought to your au pair request, it appears I don't know many young people at the moment . I'll ask around!

OP posts:
DelGirl · 29/06/2010 14:52

Ciao Franca. I have signed up with au-pair world today and have had about 15 replies already . I can only go on the photo and description though and the rest is down to gut feeling and luck along with some correspondence. Tis only for a 4/5 weeks though so not too long. Can't wait to get to Italy, it's been on the cards for a few years now. bbl

Francagoestohollywood · 29/06/2010 16:49

Oh wow! I hope you find a lovely one

Keep us posted with news of your move!

OP posts:
BananaGio · 29/06/2010 18:50

good luck with the move Delgirl. Sput yes lets meet by the lake! If we cant get our arses in gear for Rome. We should say tht by end of Sept we must def have done a meetup. It's ridiculous.
Been lurking (in my cowardly way) on various threads and see you have been sticking up for dirty smokers (like me) and silly sunbathers (like me) Franca
