hello, ciao, etc

Hi Penthe! Welcome back, how have you been? Watching football here while pretending to work. Tell DH that Berlusca has proved there is literally nothing he can do that will result in him being ousted so we may as well hope Italy do well for light relief (although not as well as England of course)

Francagoestohollywood · 24/06/2010 16:57

Penthe, hello my dear, how are you doing?

Porca (, I love writing Porca ), yes I agree with GA. I had a huge molar (or what was actually left of it, huge roots) removed 3 yrs ago in the UK with local and it was a shocking experience. Awful.
He has to have it done under GA anyway, as the cyst is too close to this nerve.

Is Italy still losing? It never wins when B. is PM. B porta sfiga

Francagoestohollywood · 24/06/2010 16:59

Yes, what amazed me about that thread was the number of people worrying about them saying the wrong things or feeling "insulted" by the OP's reactions. It is NOT about you I wanted to scream, nor was it a decalogue of good things to say.

OP posts:
porcamiseria · 24/06/2010 16:59

what a game!!!!!! poor Italy , and I had a bet on them

Francagoestohollywood · 24/06/2010 17:00

Ah Porca, I also saw you on the NICE thread. You, like me, are an evil smoker, eh?

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 24/06/2010 17:01

Those are all Bossi's bad vibes. BAstard....

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 24/06/2010 17:04

Awww, poverini.

Of course, DH didn't want them to win, but now he is sulking...

I shall miss Pirlo [phwoar], who barely played anyway...

Penthesileia · 24/06/2010 17:11

I'm fine, franca, thanks (lovely to "see" you). (old)House work still ongoing, sigh, so we are a bit lot stressed. No money. Too much work. Etc. Been away from MN a bit because I've been so so busy, plus a bit put off by aggressive politics... Still can't believe we have a Tory govt... Sigh... How is everyone? Can Rosa give me one of her super run-downs of everyone's news?

Francagoestohollywood · 24/06/2010 17:11

Pirlo is one of the best football player, EVER!

Ahahaha now I can fully support England, wishing it reaches excellent results, while trained by an Italian

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 24/06/2010 17:13

I'll leave to Rosa the honour to summarize what's been going on .

Ahhh. Renovating is always a bit traumatic, no? Is it beautiful though? Is the house uber lovely? (will you invite us??? )

Yes, lots of Tories. Help, I feel surrounded. Btw it's worse here in Italy, if that helps. But you know that!

OP posts:
porcamiseria · 24/06/2010 17:29

I am, but not a heavy one! but yes, I smoke...

I really need to work harder on here too much today!!!!!

Bucharest · 24/06/2010 17:33

Dropping by to commiserate....Dp has rolled his flag up and gone tearfully to do the recycling. Bless. Lippi is an arse, even I could have done better.....

Going to read backwards now and see what thread you're talking about.

Francagoestohollywood · 24/06/2010 17:38

Yes, I'm an occasional one too Porca!

No opinion on Lippi, I don't really follow the football. But he won a world cup 4 yrs ago, didn't he do his homework well, you think? (As I said, I'm not aware of controversies)

OP posts:
BananaGio · 24/06/2010 18:18

Lippi is a total arse. Too much politics, too much Juventus influence, too many good players not chosen, too much of letting personal disagreements colour his choices. And Italy had no playmaker. Uffa.
Rosa hope you have a lovely time.
Penthe agree with you- too many aggressive Tories. And Nick Clegg is fast becoming my public enemy number one following his nodding dog performance on the front bench yesterday. My Mum was saying he was destroyed by John Humphries on the Today programme this morning.
Moan moan moan - off for a cig!

Sputnik · 24/06/2010 20:59

Every time our neighbour's cigarette smoke drifts in (frequently) I'm tempted to take up smoking again, sigh.
Penthe, good to see you.
So Italy are out then, thanks for keeping me updated.
According to my karmic wheel theory of politics the UK needs the tories in order for the left to renew itself. Mind you if my theory is correct then the Italian left is in for one hell of a renaissance one of these days.
Rosa have a fab time, I am very jealous

Francagoestohollywood · 24/06/2010 21:11

Ahhh I see, Gio, thanks for explaining a bit of Lippi to me, as I said, I am quite ignorant of all things football, despite ds's obsession (he is a bit upset, thank goodness he was playing at a friend's today and forgot about the loss until bedtime).

Sputnik, yes, our neighbours's smoke drifts in quite often here too, and I have to force myself to not have one, as I don't smoke at home.

LOL, lol, lol. The karmic wheel theory will certainly (hopefully) work in the UK, but I think you should write Bersani an email and make him aware of its existence (boo hoo really )

giveitago · 25/06/2010 14:37

OOh bloody hell - that football.
I'm not a football person but watched yesterday's match - how to comfort dh - no idea - partly as I had nooo idea what was going on. I packed him off to cry into his beer with his mates. I could not understand the emotion tbh and I'm pissed off that the next England match clashes with my favourite tv programme. DH reckoned it was the fault of the manager - same manager - same team - but I've no idea. But I keep telling him 'it's only a game, it's only a game, it's only a game.'

ds has an English name that has a very similar Italian one (add an 'e' for the Itlalian version -the only difficulty being it's one of those names that if you add an e' it becomes a girl's name in the English as we get the original name from the French) - the names I wanted were no no's for dh's family ( non european and hence a challenge for ils to utter) - so we went the other way and went for a very 1980's male UK popstar name. Poor, poor ds - it's not wild but gives the impression of a middle aged accountant. But we like it as we're 80's people and liked the lead singer of this group.

I'd just say that ensure the name is credible on job applications 18 or 21 years down the line.

And my ds has his granfathers' names as middle names - quite a mouthful between them.

Lovely and hot - I love hot - 28 is spring to me but ds gets heat stroke at anything higher than 24 degrees. Not sure how to manage that one.

I've given up on the book recommendations - we've run out of cash - and I'm getting nowhere getting a job - yep partly because of recession and partly because I'm now an old bird with two careers breaks under my belt. Career breaks are not good. I'll have to try harder!

So child tax credit is going?

Oh gawd - I think it's to do with getting women out of the workplace so men get more of a chance.

Anyhow - off to mil's in 4 week's time. Lots ot prepare.

Francagoestohollywood · 25/06/2010 20:34

If I guessed the band, I love the name!

sorry to hear yuo are not making much progress on the job front, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

For the books, can you hit the library before going on holiday?

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 25/06/2010 22:19

I can't guess the name... Gary?

Hot today here too, thank goodness.

Am dreading the match on Sunday, as if England lose (likely!), there will be some kind of national suicide... And the thought of all those tacky flags heading to landfill...

House is in a complete state, franca. Things moving verrrryyyyy sloooowwwlllly. Some bricks, which have to be, like, hand made by fairies, or something, are taking fourteen weeks to come!!! Still, we have discovered a well in one of our cellars! So we are going to make a "feature" out of it (I am channelling Beaney and Kirsty & Phil...). Ooooh, and an original cast-iron bread oven behind a wall we knocked down. Quite exciting.

We looked at valves for the radiators today. Drove two hours to talk to a strange little man about valves. My life is weird right now.

So, wassup with everyone else? Maybe I should just stop being lazy and read the thread... Rosssssaaaaaa! Help me! (Has she gone on holiday? Buon viaggio!).

Penthesileia · 25/06/2010 22:47

Oh, and yes! You are definitely invited when it's finished. After all, we shall be broke and unable ever to travel again after doing the blimmin' thing up. So you shall have to come to us!

Rosa · 26/06/2010 05:00

Sorry Penthe... Up early here as I have packing can't sleep ness what have I forgotten etc etc .
So....
We have had a few birthdays dc's mainly
Bucharest is far too quiet .
But her dd did very well in 1st year at school and Bucharest has been adopted by the school to take photos, and generally organise them all down south .
Gio has had a nasty throat and her ds has started swimming lessons.
Franca has been planning her summer hols and her dh has to have his wisdom teeth out.
MM went to India and seems to be ok in Geneva ( but she has been too quiet as well!!)
Sputniks ds is doing well and improving speech wise. She seems to be commuting between Roma and the country pretty much.
My flat is going to be restored and if I find a well in my ripostiglio I will have a breakdown ! AM off to the spiaggia with the dds today.
Weather in Italy has been crap and we have had an Italian price check going on over cherries ( which IMO have been fab this year !)
Right off to forget a few more things - Laptop and internet key packed !

Rosa · 26/06/2010 05:03

Opps forgot giveitago...Sorry dd was muttering and Ihad to send her back to bed !
She has had to extend her Italian trip as her MIL is threatening to be ill , Think she is already on the valium for the forthcoming trip but has a holiday with her parents afterwards to make up for it.
As for the football every bar , newspaper and of course every Italian knows why they lost and of course if they had been in charge then they would have done a better job !

Penthesileia · 26/06/2010 08:38

Rosa - it is official - you rock. Thanks for that!

Am very at holidays... It feels like we will never take a holiday again...

Penthesileia · 26/06/2010 08:38

Oh, and have a nice time!!!

Bucharest · 26/06/2010 10:31

Roffling at Rosa's resume of our goings-on!

I am in panci-gripey-stomach-too-much-to-do mode as per at this time of year. I leave on Wednesday and start work on the following Monday. Heard from my boss yesterday that my teachers this year make last year's lot look positively normal which they so were not. Hey ho, t'will be another chapter....

Sent dp and dd over to the "Sporting" to hobnob with the VIPs today. His friend has abbonamento so they're going as guests. The weather in my opinion, has been perfect, hottish but fresh too. Thus I can iron and mop without having to mainline gatorade and lie down every 10 mins.

I have acquired a stalker. (I know, could only happen to me) She is lovely but......I think I may have mentioned her before, she's not Italian and her dh is a lot older than her and wears Very Shocking Trousers. I am at the stage where I have to keep my phone off as she wants to spend all day every day with dd and I and whilst at first it was OK, dd has now had enough. "Mummy, please don't tell we are going to the park". She also has some weird ideas......(even if I only do one hour of lessons she says "stai togliendo troppo da tua figlia" moans at me for not going out as much as she does with her ds (dd plays quite happily at home a lot of the time, why do I have to drag her out and chuck her in the middle of the divilchil'n at the park when she doesn't particularly want to go???? Meh. and piece de resistance of weirdness...the other day, we were talking depile......(I whack my legs with a razor under the shower) and she was telling me what she does, lazers, waxing, high octane blowtorches etc and she stood up, took her trousers and* pants down, showed me her pubes and she was on her period, so I saw quite a bit more. It's me and my nutter magnet again.
