My and DP are about TTC after a miscarriage last year. We are both professionals and live in the city where DP works, but I am only an hour's commute away. BUT I hate my current workplace and I am applying for 3 jobs, one in the city where we live and 2 that are a 3-hour train journey from home but offer greater job satisfaction and less stress. These things feel so important to me because I loved my former job but left it 5 yrs ago in order to be closer to home so we could TTC, only to discover that my new job was so stressful I couldn't face becoming a parent on top of that. If I take one of the 2 jobs I like the look of I'd be away from home from Mon-Thur each wk (I wld be able to have all Fridays and all school hols at home). We coped well with a weekly commute as a couple before now, and DP is v. supportive - but I'm more unsure about how being away from home with kids would work out. I also feel guilty that I'm not jumping at the chance of going for a job in my home city - maybe this means I am not really cut out for the sacrifices parenthood entails? Any thoughts from current commuting parents or others who have considered this would be really appreciated, thanks.
