I've posted this in parties/celebrations too but i'm hoping there might be some ideas here too.

My friend is going to be 30 in November and is wanting to do something extravagant for her birthday.

She wants to get some friends together and go away for a weekend but wants an unusual location like a castle, cave, treehouse etc.

She lives in Nottingham but has friends in Northampton, Birmingham and London so somewhere in the middle would be great but if not she's happy to travel.

Does anyone have any ideas for unusual venues other than the ones i've mentioned that aren't ridiculously expensive? I want to make this birthday special for her.

What about Glamping? Someone linked to a campsite not that long ago, will try to find it.

And as if by magic, just opened an email from a (good) travel company re their new venture about "odd"/unusual places to stay.....and just copied the following for you from their PR blurb.........

"Canopy & Stars has grown from Alastair Sawday's childhood obsession with climbing trees and building treehouses. (He claims to have made one with running water and a sofa.) So we set about thinking how we could create a fun business that included treehouses. What else might be possible? We have delighted in discovering all manner of 'spaces' and will do our utmost to stretch the imagination - and the experiences that these bizarre, beautiful and unusual places provide."

here you can hire castles etc, don't think they're too much

What I should have said is google Sawday Canopies Stars and something should pop up.

And English Heritage or the National Trust do cool places like lighthouses castles etc too.

Thanks everyone.

I've already looked at Sawday Canopies Stars but the venues dont sleep enough people. I like the Glamping idea but I think thats a bit too close to nature for my friend who is wanting too be a big kid and a princess.

Any other ideas anyone?
