how some people can disagree with the masses, or say something controversial and be 'backed up' or not be attacked. While others can't open their mouths without being told (without actually saying it) to get lost because they're talking rubbish.

Some people can be deeply offended and are offered apologies - others are just ignored.

Ho hum - guess that's how life goes - and I must be one that pulled the short straw.

I'm not flouncing - but certainly won't be seen around on much more than Products (because I've succesfully found a few things for people recently) or Member Profiles (where I don't mind helping people adjust/alter pictures).

I really can't comment on your swearing QOQ I am terrible for swearing myself so tend not to take it personally.

snafu · 22/07/2005 17:06

Well, yes, that's my point exactly. I don't see where anyone had a problem with your 23 previous posts, just the ones where you verbally abused people.

But whatever. If you want to take anything on that thread as an attack on your family, I don't suppose logical argument will stop you.

QueenOfQuotes · 22/07/2005 17:07

and also snafu I have (in very recent weeks) been told to go and post somewhere else (or words to that effect) and as far as I can remember I haven't sworn on any other threads (maybe a few FFS's or OMG's) either as QueenOfQuotes or my old name Gwenick. So it can't be the swearing that makes people react the way they do towards me on here....

OP posts:
ninah · 22/07/2005 17:08

well qoq it would be a shame if you stopped posting. That thread got my goat too. Don't let it stop you - stay on the bus

QueenOfQuotes · 22/07/2005 17:11

snafu this isn't just about that one thread - it's happened several times (tried a flounce a few weeks ago because of a comment made by a regular MN'er but I couldn't keep away for more than a week - and even when I was 'flouncing' I just posted under a different name ....just not as frequently as I do with this one.

People obviously didn't read my posts properly as I was accused of being the first to say peple were racist for their views - and even bring the BNP into it! I didn't mention the BNP at all, and I was by no means the first person to use the word 'racist' or 'racism' on the thread.

OP posts:
dyzzidi · 22/07/2005 17:12

I have obviously not seen your other threads QOQ so god knows what was said on those ones.

but i do think maybe your frustration caused you to swear on this one?

I don't see why you should stop posting mumsnet would be redundant if everybody agreed on things the best thingis the different viewpoints from people from all walks of life.

ninah · 22/07/2005 17:13

it was me that mentioned the BNP I clarified later on in the thread - just an example that fear feeds extreme groups
So this was certainly not in ref to you

ninah · 22/07/2005 17:14

and I don't remember you being singled out for any accusation
there was a group of people who mentioned racism including myself
I'm certainly not bgring off to talk about products!

QueenOfQuotes · 22/07/2005 17:16

I think we must have had an 'influx' of new MN'ers from 'another site' where strong, and often bigotted and racist views are commonplace (Btw how many people do you know in RL who ARE racist - admit it??0. This place has definitely changed, but I'm not 'stopping posting' - I'll still find out useless bits of information about products (currently discovered that you can use underfloor heating with bamboo floors LOL) and adjust/crop photo's for people (and comment on their gorgeous - or not - kids).

OP posts:
snafu · 22/07/2005 17:18

It would be a shame if you felt you needed to lock yourself in the Products topic. Bet it wouldn't last long though Perhaps some of us are guilty of believing you to have thicker skin than you really do? You always seem to be in the thick of things and come out fairly unscathed. It's not personal.

I was told on that thread that I post obviously for cheap laughs - which could not be further from the truth and I found pretty insulting. These subjects are emotive - however it's just a website...

paolosgirl · 22/07/2005 17:18

I don't think it's new posters. There's an old one who posted about "African women with their tits out" because her staunch breastfeeding views were challenged

snafu · 22/07/2005 17:19

(And, just as a quick point, I would dispute that any of the views on that thread were racist...but am not getting into that again!)

ninah · 22/07/2005 17:19

well it would certainly be good to hear from you
I agree, the worst thing of all is feeling that it's there under the surface, latent was the word I used on thread
As many people agreed with and supported you as the other way with some great posts from blu, sophable and many others
off to pick up ds now
don't let it get you down qoq have a lovely weekend with the family

"I think we must have had an 'influx' of new MN'ers from 'another site' where strong, and often bigotted and racist views are commonplace"

the insults never stop do they? how arrogant!

sunchowder · 22/07/2005 17:20

It is all in the name.

katierocket · 22/07/2005 17:22

I think we must have had an 'influx' of new MN'ers from 'another site' where strong, and often bigotted and racist views are commonplace

whaaat? sorry QOQ but I've been here about 4 years and I can't agree with you on that.

Lio · 22/07/2005 17:23

Hi QoQ, missed the thread you're talking about but fwiw I hope it all does't seem so bad in a few days' time and you'll be back, I'd miss you.

sunchowder · 22/07/2005 17:28

I am a JEW and an AMERICAN. We all have things that we need to deal with, and I can't tell you how many times that I have been insulted for being both. That is the real world. It is outrageous for anyone to think that she or her husband has been singled out. So many other people on that thread spoke about how their nationalities have effected them. The latest comment about the influx just shows again that certain people feel slighted. We all have to cope with this, these issues seem to be recurring on here lately and I have ingnored most of them. I have no idea why I felt compelled to respond this time.

sunchowder · 22/07/2005 17:33

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that I am also FAT and MIDDLE-AGED and a WOMAN and I work in IT in a MAN'S world.

WigWamBam · 22/07/2005 17:34

QoQ, I can understand why you felt a little bit more sensitive about some of the posts on that thread, given your situation. I also agree with snafu that maybe people think that you have a thicker skin than they should assume you do, because of the way you usually handle yourself on threads where others don't agree with you.

It would be a shame to let a couple of emotive threads stop you from posting. Perhaps in a couple of days time you'll feel a bit calmer about it all.

QueenOfQuotes · 22/07/2005 17:36

put it this way when I stopped posting on BW (babyworld for those that don't know) about 6 months ago and came here I was delighted to see the majority of posters on MN had completely opposites views (and much nicer ones to go with it I may add) to the majority of posters on BW. Topics which stood out to me as this being a much better site, with a higher 'class' of people posting on it were topics on Aslyum, Aid, Racism, Immigration etc etc. I'm sure I actually recall posting something saying about how lovely it was months back.

That's changed recently and there's been much more the type of posts I 'escaped' from on BW. B*tching, racism, fighting, and general nastiness..... and I've felt (on several occasions - not just today - today was just the tip of the iceberg) that I've been one of the ones targetted.

I'm NOT going back to BW (last time I looked things had got even worse over there ) but will stick to 'safe' topics for a while, and hopefully the last month or two will just prove to be a temporary 'blip' .

OP posts:
sunchowder · 22/07/2005 17:39

QoQ--you have an opportunity for growth here. Choose growth, choose to see that many of us deal with these issues and can personalize or make the world a better place by pushing on and finding the goodness in everyone. The posts made on the other thread were all from very good people that are making choices that make sense for their health and well-being, not to be racist as far as I can tell.

QueenOfQuotes · 22/07/2005 17:41

"make the world a better place by pushing on and finding the goodness in everyone."

what by avoiding black or asian youths with rucksacks????

sunchowder · 22/07/2005 17:45

Making intelligent decisions for your safety and the well-being of your family is something we do everyday. Can you get beyond this thread with the recent bombings (which are horrible) and see how it is effecting the quality of your life? This latest thread is just a symptom of something you apparently feel alot.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 22/07/2005 17:47

i know im the one that got the abusive posts deleted, but because i didnt like the harshness and language of them. It could have been ANYONE writing it, and i would have done the same.

Please dont hold it against me, because as I said, I wasnt targetting you, or your views, I just thought that sort of thing shouldnt be on display on MN.
