Help! Martin the cat needs a new name!

On Wednesday we're adopting a gorgeous tabby boy from Cats Protection. He's 5 yrs old, grey tabby, quite large and very placid and affectionate. But.....he's called Martin! Can't possibly have a cat called Martin! But I've just gone blank with anything else.

He's our first cat and we want to get it right - hopefully he's going to be part of our family for many years to come.

Please help!

'Marty' is cool and similar sounding, poor thing will be confused if you change his name to something very different!

McDreamy · 22/03/2010 21:11

Martin is a great name

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 22/03/2010 21:12

I like Martin. I had cat names like fluffy and snookums etc
My next cats are going to be Steve and Mike.

MaureenMLove · 22/03/2010 21:12

I think it's great! I probably would have gone for something like Trevor, but Martin is good!

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 22/03/2010 21:12

Hate not had

ClaireDeLoon · 22/03/2010 21:15

I like Martin too

Now Marty is something I've considered. Maybe that's the way to go.

Poor boy was called Slayer before his foster mum called him Martin!

Lou, I know what you mean about Tiddles etc, don't like those either. But Dave or Andrew feels a bit odd! Different though, I guess...

Any other thoughts cat lovers??

Think Martin is brilliant.
Mart, Martini, Marty-boy, Boykin... you never know what you'll actually call them IME.

suwoo · 24/03/2010 14:27

Martin is great. The best name for a cat IMO is Dave.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 24/03/2010 14:27

What's wrong with Martin? We had a cat called Colin once- he was a fab cat, such a dude (even made his way into the local paper with his stowaway antics)

Kneazle · 24/03/2010 14:31

I think Martin is a brilliant name as well.

Colin is also brilliant ! I also like the names Ian and Brian for cats. Makes a change from Sooty.

bumpybecky · 24/03/2010 14:32

Dave

Colin is good though

An old lady my mum knew was telling her how she had just got a rescue cat who had been called cain, as in cocaine by its previous owner.

Now this old dear wanted to give the cat a fresh start, so she renamed him Charlie.

Bit sus about my mum getting the joke though.
