NO SOUND????

My computer has decided not to paly any sound whatsoever..... speakers are on but just nothing comes out - anyone got any bright ideas?!

have you accidentally knocked a wire with your feet under the desk ?

check that the mute box isn't ticked on your software ?

i go into "control panel" and sounds, speech and audio devices and it says there are no audio devices..... its gone off since a de-frag on the puter..... just got visions of having to re-boot and i dont want to lose all my pics!

A reboot wont delete your pics, deleting them will though. Make sure you've got them saved and reboot the pc.
