Are there any women that you think make good role models for your daughters (other than yourself!)
and for what reasons?

Tanni Grey Thompson (paralympic athlete).. for her determination.

Anita Roddick - eco friendly successful business, you cant top that
Audrey hepburn - grace, beauty, compassion
Mother Teresa - overall humanity
Mrs Thatcher - doesnt matter that you dont like her politics, she was a powerful leader and the first lady british pm so she is in my list for breaking down lots of barriers. i can admire these attributes in her
Jane Austen - a successful writer I do believe
Lisa Potts (sp?) the school teacher who protected her children from the knife attacker for ultimate bravery
Joan of Arc - for beating the men at their own game.

Every girl should read Woolfe's a Room of Ones Own.

Jane Austin..

WideWebWitch · 14/07/2005 09:33

Great question! Some women in senior positions like Marjorie Scardino here for succeeding in business, Jenni Murray for being an intelligent and interesting broadcaster, Anita Roddick for her principles, will post more as I think of them.

monkeytrousers · 14/07/2005 09:33

Aung San Suu Kyi

northerner · 14/07/2005 09:34

I didnt think it would be a popular choice
but any women who takes on a male dominated environment and reaches the top gets my respect

I am also adding Marie Curie to my list

oliveoil · 14/07/2005 09:38

Martha Lane Fox (lastminute.com)

Bit mean that comment about Vanessa Feltz, I think she is a good role model tbh, came through her divorce with flying colours and she seems great on tv.

monkeytrousers · 14/07/2005 09:39

Lisa Simpson, yes!

I am woman, hear me roar!

oliveoil · 14/07/2005 09:39

Sarah Jessica Parker for being a fashion icon, evne though she isn't conventional looking. Ok, she looks like a horse. Bit you know what I maen.

WideWebWitch · 14/07/2005 09:40

I like Vanessa Feltz too.

monkeytrousers · 14/07/2005 09:45

Beatrice (Much Ado About Nothing)

northerner · 14/07/2005 09:46

Dilly Dally - I just read your Marie Curie as Mariah Carey!

franke · 14/07/2005 09:46

Agree with Martha Lane-Fox, not just for being a successful bus. woman but for fighting back from near fatal car crash in Morocco a year or so ago. She was in a really bad way for a while.

monkeytrousers · 14/07/2005 09:46

SJP? Blewwwgh! Strode away in fur for the last shot of S&C. Unforgiveable! (nothing personal OO)

dillydally · 14/07/2005 09:47

Well I can see how easily that would happen, they are very similar

fishfinger · 14/07/2005 09:49

yep lisa sinmpson

northerner · 14/07/2005 09:49

I can see why you might say Ellen McCarther, but god I can't stand her.

Her and Natasha Kaplinsky woman really get my goat.

HappyDaddy · 14/07/2005 09:50

Vanessa Feltz is full of crap. "I love the way I look, nothing would make me change", hmmm so why the crash diet and workout tapes when your dh got sick of your whinging, then?

Sorry, no time for the woman at all.

oliveoil · 14/07/2005 09:53

Ellen Mc looks like the singer from Keane. She is definintely on the annoying list, Dame my arse.

monkeytrousers · 14/07/2005 09:53

I agree really Northener. She is a pioneer though.

And lets not mention the Kaplinski in the same breath of these giants, pleeazze!

fishfinger · 14/07/2005 09:54

KYLIE?
why ?
she sings and prances around adn has botox?

oliveoil · 14/07/2005 09:55

Madonna. For not giving a shit. Though she does come across as a not-very-nice-person sometimes.

fishfinger · 14/07/2005 09:58

for being a millionaire who tells us all to make poverty history yet wont let ramblers near her million pund estate in dorset?

it that her redeeming feature?
