I hope this isn't too dense a question. I am after a couple of books that are out of print but are on Amazon marketplace very cheaply. I have only ever bought new from Amazon. Is it safe to buy from their secondhand bit? What kind of protction is there for buyers?

I have bought from their secondhand bit and it all went fine. Don't specifically know the protection you have though - have a rummage around on the Amazon website and you should find it.

I dunno about specific protection, though I daresay there's something about it somewhere on the Amazon site, but I've bought secondhand books there loads of times and never had a problem. The sellers all have stats of how many unsatisfied customers they've had and how many sales they've made, so you can see who has a good reputation.

Ooo fabulous! I don't know why I haven't tried it sooner tbh as I love second hand book shopping. I recently bought from Oxfams online shop and was very pleased with them

Yes, it's fine - there's an amazon marketplace guarantee. Only drawback is that you have to pay postage, and if there's a problem and you have to return the book, postage isn't normally refunded unless you make a fuss.

This happened to me once - I ordered a children's book I'd been looking for from a seller in the US. It was one of those picture books that have envelopes with letters in which are part of the story. When it arrived, two of the letters were missing, which made the whole thing useless, and it should not have been sold. I complained, and the sellers said I could return it for a refund, but I'd have to pay return postage and they would not refund the original postage. This would have left me about seven quid out of pocket for nothing, so I took it up with amazon, and they refunded my original payment (in full) without my having to return the book.

So, as far as I can see, it is all pretty safe.
