cat and eye infection

my cat appears to have an eye infection - looks a bit swollen around the eye and there's some pus. Obviously I'll take her to the vets first thing in the morning - but is there anything I can do in the meantime? anyone know?

not really apart from gently wipe it with some moist cotton wool if she will let you, does it look like she could have scratched it on something?

thanks sc - that's what I thought. It doesn't look scratched - just looks really manky. She's an old lady - 20 odd but generally very healthy
