to feed the birds!

Just wondering how the birdfeeders are getting on? Did blondes have any more joy at the buffet?

My feast is ever popular, was late feeding them today and they were sitting on the fences waiting bless 'em

Anyone seeing different species? I'm getting a few finches and my robins are still coming.

I had a fieldfare in my garden this winter - amazing! I didn't know what it was but it looked a bit like a cuckoo mixed with a thrush and it was a big thing!
RSPB website helped me to identify and apparently they only come into garden when the snow is covering the fields so much they have trouble finding food.
It has been a highlight for me along with the regular robin and blue tits.

I forgot to do it too

Glad you're getting some lovely birds...they're all lovely in their own way though but it's nice to see different to usual.

i've got a robins, lots of chaffinches, great tits, small tits, greenfinches, goldfinches, dunnocks and even had some pied wagtails on the feeders over the last few weeks.

I've also noticed a wren going in and out of the conifer hedge on our drive, and it sometimes sits on the holly outside the living room window. They make a lot of noise for such a small bird!

We have a pair of collared doves often to be seen on the ground under the feeders alongside the blackbirds.

Somewhere over the back (farm yard behind our house) is barn owl because i can hear it at dusk.

and of course the blooming jackdaws that sit on top of the chimneys chattering away.

We only moved in at the beginning of August but the previous owners had been feeding the birds so we haven't had to wait to encourage them in. The feeders are right outside the kitchen window and it's lovely to stand there with a cup of tea and watch them coming and going.

display... the fieldfares round here must be confused then.... they lurk around our garden constantly.... fat buggers they are too!

although that being said our garden does border fields at front and back

Sounds lovely queenrollo

I just bought a huge bag of oats (2kg) for 1.19 in Morrison's, they love that mixed with crumbs and melted lard. Need to get stocked up on nuts tomorrow as haven't made it to the warehouse. A guy just outside town sells huge bags for not a lot and the way the birds are going through them they should go?

When do you stop feeding nuts? Is it April time? I must look on the RSPB site.

it is Curiousmama. We live in the fens and have one of the big drains down the road. We walk the dogs down there and have seen a whole family of swans grow over the last few months. Lots of ducks and moorhens down there too. It is fantastic taking DS (4) on walks as he asks about all the wildlife.

My ex mil has lots of birds coming into her garden including cuckoos and woodpeckers (they do own a small piece of woodland next to their house) and one day we were sat looking at the birds on the feeders and a sparrowhawk swooped in. It didn't get anything, and if it had well that's just nature i suppose, but it was quite a magnificent sight.

I live near to marshland and get to see swans moorhens ducks plus other birds. I took some birdseed down to the marsh the other day as my birds won't eat much of it, the swans et al inhaled it bless 'em. I'm off to get a big bag of nuts and will get them some seed then dp dss and I can go and feed them some more. There's quite a few nature reserves near to us which is nice.
