how about Virtual Assistant type work - could you do that? does it have to be in the evening because of existing work commitments?

SilveryMoon · 22/01/2010 18:47

That looks interesting. Mitchy Do you do this?

MitchyInge · 22/01/2010 18:51

no, but heard something on R4 recently - on Womans Hour I think, probably still on Listen Again

SilveryMoon · 22/01/2010 18:53

OK. I might have a better look at it later. I could do stuff from home.
I'm not working at the mo because I'm a SAHM, but money is tight so would be nice to do something or even just feel like I'm doing something about trying to earn iyswim.

You could be a Body Shop or Avon representative. I have also done mystery shopping, you can apply online and do visits to shops/pubs in your area. I earnt £100 the first month i did it, £300 the second month!

What did you do before you had kids? What skills do you have? I have got work recently as a copywriter through www.peopleperhour.com. I think partly I have won the bids because I am pitching myself quite cheaply - but I figure if I wasn't doing this I would be doing nothing, so it is better to be doing a job cheaply then not doing it. You could bid for VA stuff through PPH.

I also write academic essays freelance via an agency. I work for www.oxbridgeessays.com, you have to have been to Oxbridge to write for them but if you have a degree at all then there are other sites you can write for - google for 'custom essays', 'write my essay' or similar and you should find a few sites. You need to have access to a good library to get the texts you need.

I also thought about doing Avon - but I ordered a catalogue and decided I wasn't keen enough on the products to sell them well - might be something you could do though, especially if you go to a lot of toddler groups and could sell there?

Ooh - I also spent a few months this year working for a company called Butler Hill - it was internet based, looking at search engine results - I can't say much more because it was a big client and their confidentiality agreement was pretty full-on. You just need a high speed internet connection to do it. The only problem is you have to do 4 hours per day, which as a SAHM was too restrictive for me, especially as I can't guarantee that DH will get in from work on time. They are still recruiting, here it is.

Thanks Mitchy
Intergalactic I was a bar/pub manager for a large brewery before I had children and before that I did a few years in market research and data entry.

Intergalactic · 23/01/2010 12:51

Research and data entry are definitely things you could do freelance - have a look at PPH to get a feel for the type of stuff that comes up.

Will do. Thank you
