Any history teachers out there?

Have a meeting tommorow night and my position is based on a history lesson from 25 years ago, and I can not find my old books...

Need a reference re the repealed tax laws (~1750ish) that used the revenue from a specific tax for a specific task, ie a tax on say bread would be used to pay for, say, new warships.. Obviously a stupid idea..!?
Did I remember this or make it up??
What was the law called?

HI

Wasn't this ship money??? If so then it was 1630's- 1640's. I'm pretty sure it was one of the tings that got Chrales I into trouble. Sorry, nipping out now. But can look it up later. I've got loads of books on this era.

OK, just back fron the meeting.. argument on hold till September, so plenty of time to sus this out..
Cheers so far, the Corn laws have always played in my around in the back of my mind, but its not them.
It was a tax system that was based on specific taxes being used for specific things eg a boot tax used for tooth extraction etc..

anyway it was a system that was abandoned, acording to my olde history teacher, just need the name of what ever it used to be called..
Could this be ONLY the second thing the POWER of MN has failed me on..
