Foul language on Mumsnet…

Having newly registered with Mumsnet I am dismayed, after perusing uTube and other forum sites where obscenities constantly pop up, to note use of foul language on this ?family site?.

I reported the swearing, specifically, where ?arseholes? was utilised as a reference to political parties.

The return I got from Mumsnet HQ was ??we don't think we should be the arbiters of what people should find offensive and what
they shouldn't.? and ??We generally find it's better to let the boards self-
police??

May I engage you all in a quick survey?

Hands up all those that deem ?ARSEHOLES? as an offensive expression that should not be used on these boards??

Surely this is a site for parents not for families.

So as adults, if we chose to swear then so be it.

If it is not liked then self censor.

Tell me if an excellent book, or poem involves swearing of some kind do you dismiss it? Or as an adult do you understand some people express themselves by swearing and continue to enjoy what you are reading?

I do wonder sometimes why people presume that somewhere they show up at which is clearly successful and meeting the needs of the people who use it, needs changing to protect their particular sensibilities. Surely you would just look elsewhere?

right off to sleep - think I'll kip on the sofa again tonight - sleeping rather well there at the moment - just a bugger I only get to sleep on there in comfort on the days when I'm not getting up with the boys..........the days I have to get up I'm on the uncomfortable sofa bed (usually with DS3 joining me around 2/3am ).
