Quail as livestock?

I am not sure that this is the right place to post, but here goes.
DH has a dream of us moving to a smallholding, keeping livestock and growing fruit and veg. We already have 2x allotment plots on which we grow most of our fruit and veg.
DH is happy for one/both of us to go on appropriate courses.
Today, I bought a brand new poultry ark very cheap. I just couldn't resist it. DH was thrilled as he thought we would get chickens. No - my thinking is Japanese quail - they are small, quiet, don't rip up the lawn and lay a lot of eggs, albeit small. My thinking is this - it would be a good intro to the burdens and benefits of fowl-keeping - feeding, watering, worming, dealing with mites, vetting etc.
Am I mad? Any thoughts or experience welcome, good or bad.

We used to have quail on our farm when I was growing up. Very noisy iirc!

Not much help, sorry, but try posting on the chicken keepers topic you may get some people with some more recent experience!
