Is your cat microchipped? We found a dead cat in our house this morning with no collar that was not ours......

We found a dead cat this morning curled up in one of our cat beds (we have two of our own), it must have just come in from the cold and died there

It wasn't wearing a collar so after much head scratching over what to do with it we decided to take it to the vets to see if it was chipped - it wasn't and the vet thinks it was a stray due to it's condition, it was a un-neutered male and was quite scraggy looking. We hadn't thought it was a stray as it was quite fat, but she said it will have been going from house to house getting fed.

It's a relief that it probably doesn't belong to anyone (we're still thinking of knocking on a few nearby doors just in case), but it made me think just how sad it would be if it was someone's pet and they just never knew what had happened to it.

Please consider microchipping your cat if you haven't done it already.

poor thing. At least it died in a warm house

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 11/01/2010 10:04

Oh no.

It sounds mad but could you take a photo of the cat so you have something to show so they can identify the cat?

There was a mnter on here who put her cat out at night, maybe it was hers.

that's so sad. Poor old thing.

Any idea why it died - was it just too cold?

MadreInglese · 11/01/2010 10:07

Oh we didn't think of taking a photo and it's at the vets now. They said they would put it in their 'lost and found' book in case anyone called

(and they keep them frozen for a period of time in case an owner comes forward)

Oh that's so so sad!

My cat (who I left at my mums when I went to uni) vanished a couple of years ago - she was 11 but it was awful just not knowing. My mum got the younger cat chipped.

MadreInglese · 11/01/2010 10:11

No idea what it died of, but it did look quite old and manky.

It will have been warm in our house, but it's been minus ridiculous degrees outside.

Aw that's so sad. I'm glad he went into your house because you did the right thing in taking him to the vet. Poor thing.

aristocat · 11/01/2010 10:23
