Feeling virtuous - cleaned my fridge and freezer and microwave today plus kitchen cupboards. SMug grin

Ugh! Totally disgusting! I often wondered how people with lots of children cope with them aswell as the cleaning but they obviously didn't cope at all. I thought they were soo gross, living like animals! My motto is "a place for evrything and everything in it's place" and then just do stuff as i go along (o.k, sad, i know!)
Did you see the state of my cupboards? I immediately went to check on mine afterwards!

linzoid · 11/06/2003 21:51

I meant the state of their cupboards.

naughtynoonoo · 11/06/2003 21:54

I went straight into the kitchen to do the dishes, did they send any tests to the lab this week, if so what was found. Don't you think the parents should have been inthe kids room when the cleaners were lecturing about the hygiene of the animals as well

wickedstepmother · 11/06/2003 21:59

I love this programme as I reckon it has the power to make even the messiest person feel virtuous. That said, I always find myself doing a bit of cleaning when it goes off . Personally I could never do the job those women do, it's bad enough doing my weekly housework nevermind an age of someone elses. ICK...!

RockingRosebud · 11/06/2003 22:03

And everyone of those kids needed a haircut and a hairbrush, she could at least teach them to help a bit. She looked like she couldn't give a toss though, dirty cow.

Did notice DH's feet looked quite clean when he stood in the bath.

Surprised the whole family doesn't have food poisoning.

wickedstepmother · 11/06/2003 22:07

What WAS that stuff they found at the bottom of the deep fryer ?!

winnie1 · 12/06/2003 08:54

Didn't watch it but you have all made me feel like vomiting this morning. Thanks... I think I'll forget my muffin and coffee now!

Bugsy · 12/06/2003 09:25

Linzoid - I know three families with six children and each of their houses look like a military base rather than the house on that programme. (Maybe its the seventh that pushes you over the edge!)
I wondered whether the mother on that programme might not have been a bit depressed, she didn't really seem very responsive.
Given my own Flylady tendencies, I was horrified as I am each week when I watch. Love, love, love it though - makes me feel so virtuous!

Helenpad · 12/06/2003 10:09

I think that poor woman is seriously depressed...or why else would she let her family live like that! - i'd settled down to watch with a glass of wine and a bag of "Sensations" - quite put me off!!!

serafina · 12/06/2003 10:37

Disgusting! I am on day 3 of Flylady and finding it strangely succesful (it's kitchen zone this week). Apart from receiving a large number of very irritating emails each day it's very good.

And I was VERY scathing at first when I accessed the website. I think it is a bit like GF et al. Pick out the bits that work for you and use them.

GeorginaA · 12/06/2003 11:50

serafina - do what I do - get the daily digest emails... they're easier to cope with! (and once the routine is going well, much easier to delete without reading ;o) )

whymummy · 12/06/2003 11:53

ive just done an hours ironing, hate it,hate it!! then as a reward ive made a lovely tuna and pasta salad and i`m just about to eat it yum!!

serafina · 12/06/2003 12:33

Oh God, don't mention ironing! Mine is taking over the study but as it's not in the kitchen I don't have to do it all yet!!! Flylady keeps sending me e:mails asking where my laundry is!

OP posts:
GeorginaA · 12/06/2003 12:47

ironing avoidance if you have a tumbledryer is easy )

After every wash give the load a quick blast of the tumbledryer (on most it takes about 10 minutes - on mine because it cools for the last few minutes I found 30 mins is the optimum). Then take everything out - anything you would normally put on hangers, hang straight away damp then hang them up (and the rest of the washing) to dry. Pretty much all the creases in the laundry is gone once it's dry and you can dump it straight in the wardrobe (although top tip is to really take care in hanging - make sure everything is straight even the stuff that is going on the line as normal - time taken now, saves time later).

GeorginaA · 12/06/2003 12:48

Incidentally ... work shirts probably still need a bit of an iron even after that, but it's easier and you can get dh to do it (they're his shirts after all :P)

whymummy · 12/06/2003 12:51

im expecting dh any minute now so ive got a can of mr sheen and a duster right next to me,the minute i hear the key in the door i just jump and pretend to dust

serafina · 12/06/2003 12:55

Great tip GeorginaA. I'll try it.

DH buys non-iron shirts but likes them ironed too! He irons them if he gets desperate but it's supposed to be part of my remit as I'm a SAHM now.

OP posts:
serafina · 12/06/2003 12:58

She's at it again, look:

"Where is your laundry?

Is it hiding in the washer? Getting smelly!

Cold and wrinkled in the dryer?

Are you living out of a laundry basket?

Go Re-boot your laundry. It has 5 steps:Sort, wash, dry, fold
and put away.

Don't leave out a single babystep!

If you will stay on top of this, it will not take over your
home.

You may have too many clothes! Reduce your clothing and have
fewer laundry pile ups."

Bloody woman!

sounds like my MIL

GeorginaA · 12/06/2003 13:55

Yes that's it ... you're a Stay At Home MOTHER not a bloody charwoman! - make him iron his own shirts :P

serafina · 12/06/2003 17:05

GeorgnaA, just tried your 'quick stint in the drier, then hang it up to dry' routine and it works a treat! I won't even have to iron the non-iron shirts.

Got any other useful tips?

OP posts:
M2T · 12/06/2003 17:08

I only iron when it's absolutely essential! Due to careful shopping and my "the creases with drop out with my body heat" mentality.... means I get the iron out once a month for half an hour MAX!

If dp wants his shirts ironed..... he irons them.

GeorginaA · 12/06/2003 19:15

serafina, my mother-in-law taught me that Um, can't think of any off hand... but if I suddenly have a brainwave, I'll let you know!

codswallop · 12/06/2003 19:18

use loads of fabric conditioner
