Serafina - don't know what all this talk is about Flylady, but the thing that always gets me going is to pop in my favorite CD, turn up the volume, and Dance while you Clean.

whymummy · 09/06/2003 17:30

tinyfeet i just dance

serafina · 09/06/2003 17:38

Excellent idea Tinyfeet. Any suggestions?

Perhaps we could put together a compilation CD - "Music for Domestic Chores" or some such cr*p!

sometimes is hard to be a woman or i want to be free by queen?

winnie1 · 09/06/2003 20:15

Inspiration: imagine when you move and how hideous it will be to sort out

Seriously however, break it down into small chores, do certain things on certain days, have a weekly list a monthly list and a seasonal list (I know i am very sad) but in no time at all you will be on top of it...it really does work. The time wasted in avoidance tactics could be time sent doing something much more fulfilling.

tinyfeet · 09/06/2003 20:43

The empowerment and disco songs are always good:
I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor
Dancing Queen - Abba
anything by Donna Summer
Oh what a night! by who?
anything by Lauryn Hill - on her Miseducation CD

Am I dating myself? Just blast the songs you love! There's inspiration for you!

Demented · 09/06/2003 22:39

ABBA Gold Album or Tom Jones - Reload are my personal housework faves.

motherinferior · 10/06/2003 08:56

I find Dusty Springfield's most self-abasing ones fab to clean to. Or did, before I paid a cleaner.

serafina · 10/06/2003 09:02

Okay, I'm off to write up a schedule for daily, weekly, monthly tasks.

ill check out my cds nd report back later - it's sort out the kitchen day today!

Just as well it's raining here or I'd find something much nicer to do. A bientot!

I paid for someone to come and clean my house from top to bottom - they charge for the amount of space you have - didn't cost too much about £125 I think - they degreased walls in kitchen & bathroom, moved all furniture - wet dusted everywhere - cleaned out all kitchen cupboards and cleaned them, scrubbed oven, microwave and fridge out, hoovered everywhere - took 3 of them about 5 hours but I was super impressed afterwards - reckon that if you add up how much my time is worth (if I pay myself what I think I am worth more like!!) I would have to pay myself far more than that for 15 man hours!!! Was really pissed off with husband also so paid with a cheque out of his account!!

jodee · 10/06/2003 20:31

Move house - or pretend to. We have got more done to the house in the past 2 weeks that we ever did in 8 years...

whymummy · 11/06/2003 20:41

today i had a moment of madness and cleaned my house it looked lovely for a whole hour now is back to being a mess but hey a messy house is a happy house!

Tortington · 11/06/2003 21:02

boe i would love someone to do that - only i would have to clean everything before they arrived as i would be too embarrassed which kinda defeats the point!

i have to bottom my house (again!) cos in laws are coming to stay next week.

naughtynoonoo · 11/06/2003 21:20

Have any of you watched 'How clean is your home?', thought my house was a mess until I saw tonights, what scumbags!

MABS · 11/06/2003 21:24

wasn't that programme gross - thought i was a dirty s**t til I saw that. Anyone else see it ?

Girly · 11/06/2003 21:27

Oh god it was awful, made me retch. I am not the tidyest person in the world but I just could not live like that and the children, the baby crwaling around in all that muck! uuuugggghhhhh

Girly · 11/06/2003 21:28

obviously meant crawling!

naughtynoonoo · 11/06/2003 21:35

I normally like nosing in others peoples homes, but had to turn off tonight, i felt if they spent less time bonking and more time cleaning, yuck I can imagine the state there sheets are in, it was a sheer breeding ground in there, I would have walked out years ago, and wouldn't let that dirty man lay his hands on me and make 7 babies, imagine the state of his ?"*&, sorry for lowering the tone.

Tortington · 11/06/2003 21:39

noo noo am sure the tone cant be lowered much than it usually is didnt get to watch it but saw the previews - have to wonder why social services arnt involved?

RockingRosebud · 11/06/2003 21:40

Set the kitchen timer and work for an hour then sit down with a coffee and a biccie, then another hour and do it like that.

Get the kids to help if you can, they are more capable than you think. My 4 yr old DD is really good at tidying her room and she knows to put anything she can't find a home for on her bed so I can put it away.

Get some bin bags and have a good clear out.

Eat in the garden whilst it's warm and let the mess stay outside.

Wash your sheets on 60 degrees (to kill the bed bugs) do them early on a nice day and put them back on again b4 bed time to save big piles of laundry round the house.

Get a dishwasher.

Get one of those wet Swiffer things, they really help with little spills on days you don't get the bucket out.

HTH.

naughtynoonoo · 11/06/2003 21:42

If they can afford 7 kids, surely they could afford a cleaner, especially if he has to leave early to "meet clients" - wondering what sort of "clients" the dirty git has, or should I say rabbit!
