Does anyone know the secret to keeping children's feet warm in wellies?

lots of socks

midnightexpress · 04/01/2010 20:26

They have lovely fleecy lined wellies in John Lewis. Expensive though, and they didn't have the DSs sizes when we were in recently.

Alternatively, you could try plastic bags inside the boots. POssibly.

Two pairs of socks
if girls tights and pair of socks

GrimmaTheNome · 04/01/2010 20:27

A cousin loaned me some wool hiking socks she bought from a camping store. They can be washed in a machine and tumbled dry. I was out hiking in them for over 3 hours in temperatures well below freezing, and my feet were toasty.

Maybe take a look at an outdoors shop?

foxinsocks · 04/01/2010 20:29

snow boots

those are the ones with fleecy inners - you can get them in shoe shops too or ski shops (as well as John Lewis as midnight said). We got a pair in Clarks last year for not too an exorbitant price.

Even wearing wellies with thermal socks isn't as warm as snow boots. Mine love them and now there's no more complaining! Was well worth the dosh!

Lapsedrunner · 04/01/2010 20:31

Winter/snow boots are best, can get cheap ones in Aldi/Lidl if you time it right.

diedandgonetodevon · 04/01/2010 20:31

Welly socks are the way forwards.

lovechoc · 04/01/2010 20:32

Totes socks. Had them on today over my regular socks and my feet were kept snug and warm!

MrsBadger · 04/01/2010 20:33

or kids ski socks over normal socks - curremtly £3 /2 prs in Aldi

Bonsoir · 04/01/2010 20:34

Yes.

Children's ski tights - normal tights up top, ski socks on the bottom. At Decathlon.

BonjourIvressedeNoel · 04/01/2010 20:36

ski socks from tk maxx and tucking the trousers in to the socks . I like my leg warmers too.

blithedance · 04/01/2010 20:37

Ski socks in Aldi - oh Mrs B got there first!

We got some woolly socks from Muddy Puddles for about 10x the Aldi price but they do work.

CocoK · 04/01/2010 20:37

Wool socks on top of normal socks, and/or lined wellies.

cabbage67 · 04/01/2010 20:39

Thanks for that, I have just ordered snow boots from Clarks but thought I would just see if someone has the 'answer' before I fork out for 2 pairs. Mind you, anything is worth it if there is less moaning from them!

Basically wellies & cold don't mix (unless you're talking serious adult ones with neoprene lining like these. You've done the right thing going for snow boots.

foxinsocks · 04/01/2010 22:21

and my children are the type who won't wear sweatshirts or fleeces to school because they just lose them but I bought them one pair of thick socks from a ski place and those snow boots from somewhere else and they have looked after them really well and put them on every time they have gone out

a good investment. Just a shame they will all grow out of them by the end of next year again!
