Does anyone/has anyone live/lived here?

Am debating offering on a house there (we are near Portishead at the moment but DHs office is in Weston) and would like to hear from peoplewith experience.

TIA

Haven't lived there personally, but I have visited as I know people who do and they seem to like it i.e Weston as a whole, not that particular area

The sea front is quite chavvy and heaving on warm days but the other parts I saw while driving through seemed to be quite nice and the beach is massive - you won't be short of somewhere to take your kids when its warm!

Portishead is rapildy on the up though...I'd be reluctant to move if lived there as I think property prices will keep going up but I guess its more about work life balance for you isn't it

Yes, it is that and also house prices!

We have 3 children and would like a 4 bed house and more room generally and we just can't afford it in Portishead

Portishead is getting pretty pricey these days - think its the ripple effect of people moving outside of central Bristol and commuting in

I honestly thought Weston was nice and I've just remembered an old workmate lives there and she's never had any problems. I guess its just a case of checking out the area you like at different times to see what its like - what looks like a quiet street on a weekday can be a mare on a weekend with lots of cars, kids running riot with footballs etc.

We rented a lot in a past before buying and a few things we learnt from that:

Don't live overlooking/too near a park if you can help it - its great in the day as family friendly, but at night it becomes drunk teenager hangout and noisy as hell - we overlooked a park and ended up with a brick through our window one night

Corner shops - a house right near a corner shop may sound a good idea but at night, the bored teenagers seem to hang around and it can be a bit intimidating

I sound a right misery here don't I but have learnt a lot from renting!

I'm not keen on Weston I must admit. But I can't give you any good reason for it I must amit - probably due to it being the nearest big town when I was growing up. Milton is sort of between Weston and Worle.

Kewstoke is nicer. But it's worth a look probably. If the house is right.

If you are looking for primary schools I can recommend Christchurch (or at least SIL can). Have you looked around the outskirts - Hutton, Winscombe, Banwell - or is that too pricey?

PIJC, we learnt those things when we lived in Bristol. We lived right on St George park, lovely spot but had our cars broken into and keyed sooooo many times.

Thanks OI, we are looking at Kewstoke as well and Uphill which is lovely but there are hardly any houses there.

We live in Pill at the mo, and the kids go to schoolin Portishead, put the house on the market 2 years ago to move nearer the school and nothing sold in our village until the last six months. Nowours has gone and there is nothing left!!!!

There is a new estate in Hutton - normally not keen in them but this one looks quite nice. Just outside Weston - easy drive. Pretty countryside.
