One of my friends is starting a PhD in the autumn and her subject is TV medical dramas - I'm very interested as my absolute favourite program happens to be ER (she might get to go over to the US to do some research - and might need an assistant(!) to take notes). As part of her research she'll be asking people why they watch such dramas - what is so appealing about doctors and sick people ? any opinions out there ?

One of the main reasons has got to be gorgeus George and now even more gorgeus Luca(pant, pant).

ER is so dramatic with so much action it makes casualty etc,etc look like Watch with Mother. Ihave worked in an A and E Dept and although it was pretty exciting and hair raising at times it was nothing like ER.

As a child I was completely terrified of doctors after having a lot of problems with constipation(say no more)and always enjoyed watching hospital soaps.Does anyone remember Emergency ward 10??
maybe it goes back to that fear and fascination

Batters,I'm not sure I like being at the mercy of someone in authority,I am always terrifed they will make a mistake,I would rather be responsible for myself, though if it were Luca....

What a thing to do a PhD in, where did she get funding? Anyway ER is my fav. programme due to the relationships between the doctors, nurses etc. They rely so much on each other & Carter is cute. I think Batters is right it is probably because people want to be 'looked after'. The sick are totally icidental.
I cannot stand Casualty, all that waiting for an accident to happen.
Boo I don't remember Emergency Ward 10 but I used to love St Elswhere.

I think she's funding herself and also doing some teaching as well- she's leaving her job to do it anyway !
