How do I remove the rear seats in a Ford Galaxy (02) please?

I have done a search for this, both here and online but couldn't find anything.. we've just bought a ford galaxy, I can get the rear seats to fold over no problem, I've found the red tag that makes the back two connectors pop out but... what makes the front two connectors come out??

Would really appreciate some help before we go on day trip to see the MIL with bags, presents, buggy, etc....

thanks!

a big axe?

MinnieMummy · 18/12/2009 19:46

Don't have one of those to hand. Plus there's not the space to get enough momentum...

hmm can't remember the connectors (maybe we didn't have that model) but don't you squeeze together the 2 metal rods at the back? You would never ever think that looking at it. You would need someone to tell you lol.

MinnieMummy · 18/12/2009 19:51

Connectors might not be the right word, there's four holes for each seat and four metal prong-y bits on the seats that click into them.

Off to do some squeezing... after I've put the pizza in the oven (priorities)

in fact, I do remember. You must push the middle row of seats as far forward as it goes (and sometimes move the headrests down to make sure you can push that rear seat as far forward as possible)

you can't see those front connectors and the 2 bars you squeeze together unless you have been able to push that rear seat as far forward as poss

whyme2 · 18/12/2009 19:52

Ours was two bars that you had to squeeze - however you needed to be very strong to do it.

foxinsocks · 18/12/2009 19:53

I mean push the rear seat once you've released the rear connectors iyswim

so you've done that bit and folded it forward - I think you've probably not folded it forward enough to see the front one iyswim!

whyme2 · 18/12/2009 19:53

Oh and take the head rests off first.

SleighGirl · 18/12/2009 19:54

you have to squeeze the bars together so that the lower one comes up and the upper one goes down.

I'm small and have small hands and find it very very difficult to do!

foxinsocks · 18/12/2009 19:54

yes I always have to use 2 hands, an odd position and lots of straining noises before it works

SleighGirl · 18/12/2009 19:58

foxinsocks I know exactly what you mean.

I nearly wept with frustration, my ancient espace was so quick and easy to pop in them in and out!!!

Also remember when you put them back in there is a left and right hand side seat (unlike the espace where they all fitted anywhere..........) it's not obvious until you try and put the seat belt on.

foxinsocks · 18/12/2009 20:01

oh very good point sleigh!

and the seats are also FAR heavier than you think

so be careful when you yank them out. If you have a dp or a friend, I would really rope them in to help!

foxinsocks · 18/12/2009 20:02

lol at all of us on here scarred by the experience!

we are hopefully getting an s max and my one joy was that the seats look far far easier to fold down

SleighGirl · 18/12/2009 20:03

I take it you didn't get the manual with the car then because it's all in there btw

MinnieMummy · 18/12/2009 20:18

Oh yes, do have the manual but it just didn't look terribly clear.

DH is out on his work xmas jolly so I thought I'd show him up be helpful in the meantime and get them out as he had a quick go earlier (and failed, clearly).

Tried taking the headrest off but still couldn't get the seats to fold all the way forward. Car seats are in the middle row and can't be arsed to take them out to move that row forward. [lazy]

I can see the two bars and can squeeze them but nothing happens... and as I'm 19 weeks pg, now you've all said how heavy they are, I'm quite glad!!

Many thanks for all the replies though - wasn't expecting such a big response!

you have to have the seats tipped up and it's not enough to squeeze together you need to make sure that the bottom bar lifts up not just the top one being pushed downards IYSWIM.

You could release them but not lift the seats out of the car if you wanted to show him up!

chinchops · 28/05/2014 11:22

with a little help from this site I have just removed the seats from a ford galaxy, first you must put the seats down with the chosen seat with its headrest off and the fold the seat and pull the red cord at the bottom at the back and tip it as far forward as you can which then makes the front clasps easy to come off by squeezing the two smaller bars together. Personally you dont need any strength. Hope this helps. :)
