why do moths burn themselves on lights?

and do they fly towards the sun on a hot day?

and are they only nocturnal? if so...thats a bit antwacky isn't it? nocturnal animal that loves light?

The simple answer according to ds1's book is that they are nocturnal and use the stars and moon to find their way. Bright artificial lights confuse them.
