I saw part of a film on TV the other night where a group of teenagers did one of these. I know it was TV and things do get exaggerated but it made me think.
I have never in my life done one of these and don't know of anyone that has either, but I'm curious. Don't get me wrong, I'm not planning on doing one either!!!
Just wondered if anyone out there has experience of this and what they thought.
I find it hard to believe that something like that can have such power.

Like you say - that's my opinion and I'm entitled to it.

sarah x
i was raised as a christian(catholic) and i dont have any problem with it i actually have regard and respect for christianity although i do have a problem with 'organised religion' and the wealthy patriachal hierachy of the catholic church.
i dont class myself as of any particular religion now and i pray to god as i see god whenever i wish (sometimes i say standard prayers sometimes i just talk)
the darkest period of my life was when i turned away from religion or spirituality of any kind at all
the path i took back to a spiritual life was started by learning about tarot.i didnt choose this but shared a flat with someone who was a reader who taught me about the cards (it was a long time before i was given my own pack)
the flat i shared was an old vicarage and i also picked up on a spirit there (my first experience of anything of this nature)
i used to think i heard the door knock when i was cooking dinner and went to find no one there.i decided(didnt know why) that it was the old house keeper and a few weeks later found out that there had been one there not that long before who had lived until her 90s
i didnt really conciously choose to be part of a life that encompassed spirituality( i always feel it choose me -i have so many experiences of 'unexplainable things' i could go on all day )
everyone is entitled to there own beliefs but i think that its easy to be restricted in your veiws
a spiritual life does not necessarily have to be a christian one -i think that high moral values can be good for yourself and others but sometimes we can find values that are good for us induvidually and not because they are told to us by the church
i do have (well ithink i have..) a decent set of values im not always well behaved but i know when ive done wrong and i live my life spiritually, respectfully and lovingly
yes i have and do dabble with 'the occult' i dont play with anything i see to be of darkness -and to me this is as natural a way of life as a christian going to church! -no insults intended -this is the truth as i see it

Interestingly we had this painting in a flat when we was younger.

it was above one of those gas bar fire things with the grate across.

the flat itself was haunted with various children.

Anyway one morning, I was 4 and my little brother was just under one and had just learned to sit up. My big sister who was 6 had been cutting out tokens from the cereal box. She left them on the table to get ready for school and my little brother was left laying on the floor. Anyway my parents bed was a lift down thing in the living room and i wondered in there....my mum told me to go and keep an eye on my brother while she got dressed.

i walked in and found my brother with a fire between his legs....he had somehow got the tokens off the table and stuck them in the fire.....somehow i managed to pull him away and run and get my mum. amazingly no-one was hurt.

I remember it to this day and it all happened right beneath where this picture hung.

When we left the flat when I was 6 my parents left the painting behind. Thank goodness

lunachic · 24/06/2005 16:53

for real horse shoe ? if thats true its an amazing coincidence very spooky indeed

expatinscotland · 24/06/2005 16:54

Holy s**t, misdee! That is one freaky deaky painting and story. Although why the hell would anyone want to keep a picture of a boy crying in their house? That's odd.

misdee · 24/06/2005 16:57

this one looks freakier

horseshoe · 24/06/2005 16:57

Honestly no lie...

There is also a crying girl picture and we had both.

Never like those pictures...

Of course it wasn't until i got older that i learned the story behind it and i freaked.

i saw one being sold at a bootsale recently for £150. they are worth alot these days.....an arsonist would be cheaper though.

lunachic · 24/06/2005 17:05

gees missdee your freaking me
theyre not nice images for your wall are they-me suspects this is what is causing the problems

lunachic · 24/06/2005 17:07

lol horse shoe
i think it happenes cause th
e little boy is angry that his pain is etched on that canvas forever and noone is paying any real attention to him /it

ChaCha · 25/06/2005 08:31

Reminds me of a book i read in my late teens, it was called 'Bloodline' can't remember the author though. I think there was a pic of Alistair Crowley on the front - bit gory looking (blood dripping down face)..it was all to do with a painting. LOL, just remembering reading it before going to bed and having to cover the front cover with something when put down..just in case!!!!

mogwai · 25/06/2005 19:10

I'm too scared to even LOOK at that picture! And that's coming from me, who's mother has DIY books flying off the shelf [shit scared emoticon}

mogwai · 25/06/2005 19:12

actually...I think we need more emoticons on MN. I'd plump for

Shit scared
Dubious
Rolls eyes
strokes chin (in manner of someone the thinks they are being lied to)

Any more?

Sorry, didn't mean to change the subject. Back to ghoulies......wooooooo
