hi all
like to say this is not a shoot me down in flames thread and dont want it to be.
i am just very interested.
i know a couple with a young baby, who are claiming every benefit they can, and they both work for cash in hand.
they have the latest mobile phones and the guys trainers cost more than my whole outfit.
it is really starting to p**s me off. my hubby works really hard and every month we are scraping the bucket at the end of the month.
why should we be the honest ones who are skint and they get everything.
so has anyone reported someone. did you feel guilty.
thanks for any replies

I have told my friend to her face that I don't agree with what she is doing, she knows I wouldn't report her because I also have disabled kids, and she knows exactly what I think.

It makes me mad i'm afraid. Have said on here before that we struggle alot and dp works full time.

Next door don't have proper jobs, but claim everything going and do 2 car boots a week. They have all mod cons, foreign hols, 3 cars etc etc.

There are alot of people doing the exact same thing on this estate and they don't care.

Sorry - Are you claiming as a single parent then but your partner actually lives with you ???

If you are I think that is awful of you. Some people who are genuine single parents have to survive on what they are legally entitled too and do.

Fio2 · 20/06/2005 17:03

I think sometimes it could be quite easy to do accidentally, in the case of carers allowance where you are limited to how much you can earn etc. its a silly rule IMO. You should still get carers even if you work.

HappyHuggy · 20/06/2005 17:04

i cant see the problem with shopping people tbh. Why ask them why there doing it? the fact is. they are doing it and its just not fair. We have to survive on what we earn.

HappyHuggy · 20/06/2005 17:05

or what nutty says cause she said it much better than me

Nightynight · 20/06/2005 17:06

happyhuggy, its the difference between living in a community and in a place where authorities are boss and make the decisions.

nikcola · 20/06/2005 17:07

ive been reported for benifit fraud even though i wasnt doing anything worong my mum and dad bpught me a car for my 21st (it cost £350)! me neighbour phoned the social and said i was working while claming he also told them that dp loives with me and he doesnt bloody cheek! i might just grass him up for having no road tax! or even no licence!

sparklymieow · 20/06/2005 17:10

I can't work it out tbh, as I know that we were better off when DH was working, and the goverment are making it so people are better off while working.

i've lvied on basic income support and child benefit. its hard but perfectly possible to do.

now we ahve life easier money wise than when we worked, but cant wait for the day we can leave all our benefits behind us and support ourselves.

nikcola · 20/06/2005 17:13

no they just came round and asked me a few questions but my neighbour will not get away with it hes on the dole and is 37 he grows pot in his house and hes got a car with no tax plus he has been banned from driving bloody cheek

sparklymieow · 20/06/2005 17:14

Nicloka, Thats terrible, he obv. has nothing better to do............

HappyHuggy · 20/06/2005 17:14

living in a community would give the impression of everybody pulling there weight and being fair - not one person taking more than their fair share and putting everyone else at a disadvantage.

i kmow thats badly worded but i cant think of a better way of putting it.

people who cheat and commit benifit fraud really piss me off

and like i said my own father and his family do it and im always saying im going to report them just havent yet....

Nightynight · 20/06/2005 17:15

We were definitely worse off working than on benefits. We lost a lot of money and piled up several thousand pounds worth of debts after we came off benefits. (not big spending either)

Then I got promotion & payrises, and weve been breaking even for about 4 years now.

sparklymieow · 20/06/2005 17:16

it also tars everyone on benifits with the same brush, we are all scrougers and cheats, because people cheat the system.

edam · 20/06/2005 17:17

Some poisonous little creep falsely reported my sister - she lives on her own with her baby but does have a relationship with baby's father. Baby's father lives 100 miles away and is out of work at the moment (he isn't claiming as his family are paying his bills and he's doing odd bits of work here and there).

Really, really nasty, spiteful thing to do to a single mum who hasn't done anything wrong and has been desperately struggling. Some evil nosey-parker obviously got some sad enjoyment through reporting her for the crime of having a MAN visiting her house.

In fact student nurses like my sister who have babies are deliberately left penniless by the state - they aren't allowed to claim benefits until after the birth but they have their student bursaries stopped as soon as they leave their courses. What are they supposed to live on, thin air? That's a bigger crime than benefit fraud, in my book.

misdee · 20/06/2005 17:17

i'm not. tho people think i am due to the amount we get coming in.

TheVillageIdiot · 20/06/2005 17:18

I'm sorry 'Sorry' but people like you really piss me off.

I would love, absolutely love to stay at home. Perhaps all the working mums who would like to stay at home should just start practising fraud.

sparklymieow · 20/06/2005 17:19

I think that people should be made to give evidence that someone is working, when they report other people, because people will continue to falsely report people when they have done nothing wrong.

Nightynight · 20/06/2005 17:19

huggy
people wont commit benefit fraud if theyre scared of the consequences. That could be the authorities punishing them, or it could be peer pressure from neighbours making it clear what is acceptable/unacceptable behaviour in the community.
thats my feeling against grassing people really. hate authoritarianism if there's a better way to deal with the situation.

misdee · 20/06/2005 17:20

'sorry', think you really need to sort this out. working families tax credit will help u with nursery fees, and she wont have to be dry to go there. go get a job!! or just stop claiming and live on your dp wages.

sparklymieow · 20/06/2005 17:21

misdee, I get slightly less than you, and I can see people's brains trying to work it out, I must be cheating the system because I get extra, but they don't relise taht I get DLA for the kids, and CTC top up the money too when you have disabled kids.

Nightynight · 20/06/2005 17:22

TVI, if everyone did what sorry is doing, the govt might be forced to change its policies and give us a bit of a break to stay at home, like they do in France. democratic, eh?

misdee · 20/06/2005 17:22

i know mieow. but shsush. dont want people to know

sparklymieow · 20/06/2005 17:24

I am not going to say how much I get on benifits as this isn't a discussion on how much I get but I don't agree with benifit fraud, and I think its wrong, and people like 'sorry' do nothing but give us all a bad name,
