I have a 10 month old and have just been told a party we are going to on Friday is fancy dress (for the babies!)

Erm - I work so don't have time to buy/make anything too complicated and don't really want to look like I have made too much of an effort anyway - can anyone recommend any way that I can make my baby look dressed up?

Many thanks in advance

put a silly hat on him with silly bootees.

That's what we did with ds (he was a month or two old) when we went to a fancy dress thing.

TheArmadillo · 17/11/2009 11:29

we had jesters ones. Sometimes they come with rattles as well.

Or you can get things like tigger sleepsuits.

Tinkerisdead · 17/11/2009 11:30

Me again (seen you on the present idea thread)
Put him in his nappy and a bonnet or something and say he's george dawes from shooting stars...fancy dress for babies??!!

What are the scores george dawes!! Get him a drum to go with it.

Tinkerisdead · 17/11/2009 11:31

or go to home bargains/pound stretcher type shop they always have santa suits and xmas pudding outfits for about 2 quid!

petitmaman · 17/11/2009 11:32

is your baby boy or girl? dd went to halloween party at 6 months. we put her in plain ress with stripey tights and (only as we walked in) an adults adapted witches het. do you have any clothes you could adapt? maybe checked shirt and jeans for a cowbay ds?

stealthsquiggle · 17/11/2009 11:32

If you can be bothered at all there are loads of really naff baby angel outfits etc in the shops ATM - I am sure I saw some in Sainsbury's the other day.

thumbwitch · 17/11/2009 11:36

Put him in plain white with a gold cardboard circle on his head and he could be the baby Jesus, if you don't think it would offend anyone.

Rhubarb · 17/11/2009 11:42

White sheet over him - a ghost.

Have a look on ebay, you'll probably get something on there really cheap.

I'm betting that all the other babies will be cute animals, like bears and tigers.

Draw some fangs on yours, dress him in black with a bit of eye-liner and he can be Bella Lugosi.

At a similar age I sewed red foam horns to a red hoody of DS2's, sewed a forked tail to the matching red trousers and took him to a Halloween party as Spawn of the Devil.

minkeymonkeymoo · 17/11/2009 11:54

Sorry should have said, lo is a little boy.

Sadly the party is at nursery so he will have to be in the outfit for 9 hours!

Hi DrsWife ...

Our nursery did that once for World Book day. All the brats had to dress as characters from a book. Only I forgot. So when I took ds in we were faced with all these little Harry Potters and Snow Whites prancing around.

I thought quickly and told them that ds had come as James from James and the Giant Peach. So she announced to the nursery in that annoying high-pitched tone that only nursery assistants can do: "Look everyone! has come as James from James and the Giant Peach! Oh how lovely!"

ds didn't care and neither did I much!

pmsl at soupdragon and rhubarb...

fruitshootsandheaves · 17/11/2009 12:01

don't take him but pretend he is with you
say he has come as the invisible manchild

minkeymonkeymoo · 17/11/2009 12:02

That's a good idea Rhubarb (I wonder how many times I can get away with that?!) I don't care much either - especially as no-one bothered to tell me. I only work 2 days a week but unfortunately they would tell me on Thursday when I take him.

Still, at least at 10 months he won't be traumatised by the whole thing

Reminds me of a Hallowe'en party I went to where one bloke appeared not to have dressed up at all - he said he was the victim of an accident that hadn't happened yet. We made it happen (loo roll and red lipstick)

Or Wednesday Addams approach - didn't dress up - she was a serial killer because they look just like everyone else.

Rhubarb · 17/11/2009 12:07

Trust me, yours will not be the only baby who hasn't dressed up.

SoupDragon · 17/11/2009 12:08

I really don't think you can send a baby to a fancy dress party and say he's an accident

thumbwitch · 17/11/2009 12:18

true, soupdragon
