In case you're beginning to tire of the general Bubble 'Love-in' vibe tonight I have to say that no, I haven't been at the cooking sherry.

I want to say that while I'm extending my thanks to mears I'd like also to thank pupuce. Midwives and Doulas have different roles completely but pupuce advised me wisely during my pregnancy with the twins and I sure as heck know that, had she been with me, I would have had two baby boys now instead of one. We have had different opinions on some issues (Odent springs to mind) but if I'm lucky enough to get pregnant again, I would like to have her as my Doula.

That's all. Just want to make sure we don't lose her as well.

Pupuce,

did you have to train to be a doula?

Motherinferior: I do remember your situation... but aren't home water births the best

Merci Moondog....

Happyhuggy - You do not need to train per se, many of us do though as parents expect us to have extra knowledge.
One of the issue women who do thos for friend have to realise if they want to do this for "strangers" is that you have to be on-call for 4 weeks and you MUST attend the birth and it can be a long affair so you must have arrangements for childcare!

pupuce · 19/06/2005 21:34

Expat ???? what?????

expatinscotland · 20/06/2005 08:28

'Pupuce'. What does it mean? It's cool at any rate.

basketcase · 20/06/2005 08:37

yeah - always wondered about pupuces? name and why she chose it?
Got to say that I only dip in and out and often just lurk a lot. Always found Pupuce advice really helpful - I tried for a homebirth on strength of what I read on this website, much of it was from pupuce. I am so gald I did - totally different experience to DD1 and much happier despite transfer at last minute to hospital. Would go for home birth again if ever luck enough to have another.
Please hang around pupuce and keep giving us the benefit of your epxerience and wisdom.

Worried about original post - can anyone enlighten me about the
"thats all. Just want to make sure we don?t lose her as well" point - have we lost someone recently?

moondog · 20/06/2005 10:18

Pupuce is a French diminutive for 'flea'.
Term of endearment, like ......God,can't think of anequivalent

'little monster' 'little monkey'

Not really above but something on those lines.
