I'm pleased I looked in on this thread. It's a whole new language. Have any of you ever used disposables or did you use RN from the beginning?

jessicasmummy · 18/06/2005 22:01

i used disposables for the first 8 weeks and then real nappies until january/feb time - couldnt afford to get next size real nappies, so went back to disposables. New lot of toddler sized nappies came earlier in the week, have now been washed and dried and used! Out on the line drying as i speak ready for tomorrow! Still use disposables overnight because Jess wee's just too much overnight!

starlover · 18/06/2005 22:01

LOL!!!

bubble... we used disposable for a few weeks when DS was born as the cloth ones I had got were a bit big on him. And I was too knackered to do washing! LOL

JM... I can't use disposables overnight! We took some to devon with us for the weekend and i had to change DS in the night.... never had to do that in cloth!

use disposables for dd1. i did buy some shaped nappies and plastic pants from mothercare and used them for anout a week but didnt get on with them. that was the days before i found out about all the different nappies available.

dd2 used dispoables till just before she was a year old. she outgrew what disposables were available as she was a chunky little thing (still is actually) so conatced team lollipop and they lent me a few tots and ME aiflow wraps, and then i bought a further 8 nappies and 3 wraps. never looked back.

hate disposables now, more because of the smell and feel of them, plus the price. bought some for our weekend away last week, and came back muttering about how expensive they were.

jessicasmummy · 18/06/2005 22:05

i just find her cloth ones wake her during the night because she is soaked.... with a disposable she can have it on for 12 hours without a problem.... all babies are different i guess! Oh, and the fact that i seem to be the only mother that cant be bothered with nappies and wraps so use kushies all in ones!!!

pixiefish · 18/06/2005 22:06

We've got a table booked at the child safety week big toddle. we've got posters and leaflets and my friend whose a nappy agent is bringing her demo pack. We've also put posters up all over the place and have started giving talks at local sure starts. Oh and we've set up a real nappy promotion website.

misdee · 18/06/2005 22:06

jessicas mummy, fancy a worn out tots to try for overnight? still absorbant but just looks very very well used.

starlover · 18/06/2005 22:06

have you tried using a fleece liner? that should keep her bottom dry

starlover · 18/06/2005 22:06

ooh pixiefish... well done!

Keeps me occupied starlover- the website is something \I can do when dd is asleep. The rest I can do with dd

jessicasmummy · 18/06/2005 22:08

misdee - yeah no worries... ill try anything me - i hate disposables wiht a passion but it seems to be the only thing to keep her dry at night. Fleece liners - are they the same as booster pads? Might cut up my fave fleece blanket if its not!

starlover · 18/06/2005 22:08

i wish i had known about it sooner. as i would have definitely done something round here. still.... always next year!

misdee · 18/06/2005 22:08

how big is jessica? a size 2 might be ok.

misdee · 18/06/2005 22:09

bubble CAT me your address if interested.

starlover · 18/06/2005 22:09

no just put a piece of fleece in on top of the booster. it wicks all the wetness away and the surface stays dry!!!!

you can buy fleece from a fabric store and cut it up. you would only need a small amount (worth looking for remnants)

she's 11 months - wearing size 4 disposables and toddler kushies - she is about 22lbs in weight.... skinny little belly but chubby legs!

misdee · 18/06/2005 22:12

i'll dig out a size 2 for you, think its needs re-elasticating but if you can get your hands on a nippa (i dont think i have any spare)it should be fine for containment, and a medium/large wrap?

jessicasmummy · 18/06/2005 22:12

ill see what i can do. I dont understand these wraps and things. Ive seen nippas for sale in boots really cheap so that doesnt bother me.

Maybe a thread on the wanted board is needed....

misdee · 18/06/2005 22:15

tots bots are one of the most absorbant nappy so ideal for night time use.

i got hold of some of the old bright coloured tots bots, they are so lovely.

jessicasmummy · 18/06/2005 22:18

Thread on wanted board is now up - see if i get anywhere - if not i may have to talk dh into letting me search ebay at the end of the month when he gets paid!

misdee · 18/06/2005 22:25

this is one of my favourite sites as they dont overchage for p+p. they refunded me p+p when they overcalculated. very gopod, and good prices. the hester and finn wraps are good and cheap as well.

jessicasmummy · 18/06/2005 22:26

can i ask a really dumb question.... whats the difference between a prefold and a shaped?!

starlover · 18/06/2005 22:29

a prefold is just a thick cotton rectangle which you fold and put in a wrap.

a shaped nappy is a terry one that is the same shape as a disposable

OP posts:
misdee · 18/06/2005 22:29

prefold is like a sqaure, the middle section is biggest and has more layers. you fold it into a pad to fit insiade a wrap. a shaped is simlar to your kooshies but without the waterproof layer. if that makes sense.
