I have a ring, worth about £800. It is an antique (about 150 yrs old, gold, ruby and diamond). Does anyone know of a jewellers in London /Kent who would buy it from me.

I would take it to several local jewellers and get a price from each, then put it on ebay with a reserve and see if you get more.

Is it valued at £800 for insurance purposes? If so you are unlikely to get anything like that for it, just thought I should warn you!

Anything like this , lv?

I sold one recently, I went round all the jewellers in town and got offers and put it on ebay with the top offer as the reserve and got £30 extra for it.

A jeweller yonks ago told me it was worth about £800. No not like the one one ebay more filigree like and delicate. It amazes me that people will buy, unseen expensive goods on ebay. I certainly wouldn't most I have spent on ebay is £40.

I once heard of a shop in cambridge that put your jewellery into window and if it sold they took 20% of sale price in commission. This sounded good bet so wondered if there was similar in London.

Rickman: I got some stuff valued for insurance purposes and was told that the sale value was about 50% of the insurance figure - so you'd be looking at selling for about 1500 if that's the case.

you could try a local auction house. They usually do specialist jewellery sales and you can always put a reserve on.
