Why do they do it to me?

During my preg I've managed not to spend too much - by mainly keeping myself chained in the house and not letting myself buy much on the net. But this morning I got the Vertbaudet catalogue and now I want to spend loads. Everything in there is gorgeous - all the sweet little clothes and toys. I need to win the lottery NOW so I can buy everything.

Anyone else got the catalogue and know what I mean?

oh wobblymum i know what you mean, its so tempting,i think youve done really well and deserve a bit of a shopping spree

wobblymum · 30/05/2003 12:11

Please don't tempt me whymummy!!! I've just been to their site and seen all the offers on all the baby clothes!!! The only thing stopping me right now is the thought that dd will grow out of them really quickly so it'll be a waste. I think I'll buy a couple of sleepsuits now and then when she's 6 months or so buy everything in sight!!!!

nooooo, buy them now,in the summer you can really show off specially with little girlsthey look so cute with all the summery dresses

sis · 30/05/2003 12:23

WE'd be bankrupt by now if ds had been a dd! The little girls clothes in verbaudet are just sooo cute

wobblymum · 30/05/2003 12:29

You lot are just as bad as the catalogue. At this rate I'll be bankrupt by the end of the day!!! Ok, I'll have to get some sleepsuits, a couple of dresses and a few bits and pieces but after that I REALLY have to stop!!! Can't even get parents or IL's to buy stuff as presents because my mum would say "oh no, she'll only be sick all over it" and MIL would say "oh no, I'll knit something like that for you"!!!! Might have to anonymously get a catalogue delivered to my sister with everything I like circled!!!

go on!!my dd was born in may and all the summer dresses were still ok the year after and for holidays in between,so is not a total waste of money, just get a size bigger than what she is,don`t listen to anybody just do it

wobblymum · 30/05/2003 12:38

Lol, whymummy you should work for Vertbaudet, get loads of commision off me alone!!!

It's useless even thinking about it because I know full well that I'll end up buying as much as I can sneak past DH, especially as there's a SALE on! Just knowing that I've saved a few quid from normal always makes me buy 3 times as much as I would have!!

go to your local oxfam and ask for a few bags then put all the vertbaudet stuff in them and let everyone believe you got it all for £2.50

wobblymum · 30/05/2003 12:45

Ha ha!!! Great idea but my DH definitely wouldn't go for that - he hates charity shops. He's got nothing against them in principle but he'd never want to buy from them because his mum used to buy ALL his clothes from them, even though they had quite a bit of money. And she used to choose the worst she could find, so now he's put off for life.

Also, he'd be a bit suspicious when the bank statement came!!!!

wobblymum - I love Vertbaudet! their sizes do tend to be for teeny French sprogs though so always order bigger. Also if you wait and wait and wait before ordering they'll send you loads of ridiculously cheap special offers and lovely freebies to entice you to buy. You know the "sorry we have not received an order from you yet...please take 30% off your total order, free bunny cot toy and bargainlicious sale prices etc etc. Worth waiting for - then go maaaaaaad - gorgeous stuff!
got a fab chicco deluxe bouncy chair for half price last year - suckers!

wobblymum · 30/05/2003 12:55

Thanks bobsmum - how long does it take before they're begging you to buy? If they give too much discount, I'll just end up buying the whole lot. They've already said if I order now I get a child's CD player, free delivery and a bluebell the cat soft toy.

I got their sale booklet through last week with up to 40% off on some stuff - including the nice furniture/nursery stuff. These prices should apply on the website too, but won't show up on the site until you've paid for them - v confusing.
Your deal sounds rather good actually - their freebies are usualyy lovely!

wobblymum · 30/05/2003 13:21

Do you think that if I order some stuff now through their website that I'll still get all the offers and stuff begging me to buy?

Luckily all the offers have got codes so I can order on their site to get all the sale stuff and hopefully still get the freebies. For the cat you have to order at least 3 items but somehow I don't think that will be a problem in my current state of mind (ie buy buy BUY!!)!!

wobblymum - definitely - i've only ever ordered online. the confusing bit is when they email you what you've bought and occasionally the new sales prices haven't been updated so it looks like you've been charged full price - but you haven't.
i had one mix up, when I didn't put in the right code and didn't get my freeebie or free postage or whatever, but they sorted it out straight away over the phone. v helpful.
oh no - now i'm going to have to circle more things in the catalogue - wish wish wish...

Philippat · 30/05/2003 16:31

wobblymum, can't remember if you have other kids so will already know this piece of wisdom, but if not - avoid the Vertbaudet sleepsuits that do up at the back. You never get to see your poor babe's back in the early days and wrestling those poppers shut is impossible. I seem to remember Vertbaudet specialise in extremely complicated closures.

Bobsmum · 30/05/2003 16:34

Philippat - yes yes yes yes - those sleepsuits are a work of the devil. They are so cute but totally impossible for changes and have very small feet too. but I still love vertbaudet!

sis · 30/05/2003 16:54

Yeah, I too have been a sucker for sleepsuits that have poppers on the back and fought to get poor ds into the damn things. Still think all the clothes look soooo cute - esp the girls stuff!!
