Last night had girlfriends round while DH away with work - had a lovely takeaway after clearing away noticed this huge heat mark from a package that obviously was not sat on a mat!! Have tried mayo / vaseline / olive oil all not working.
Need ideas quickly b4 DH back tomorrow!!

OK, I Googled, and there are a couple of things you can try.

Mayonnaise apparently works wonders, rub it in and buff it off.

Or, you can try mixing equal parts baking soda and regular white, non-gel toothpaste. Lightly dampen the corner of a clean, soft white cloth with water and dip it into the paste. With a circular motion, gently buff the marks for a few minutes. Wipe the area clean, and buff to a shine. Rings that remain after buffing for five minutes or so may have penetrated the wood, and the piece might require refinishing.

The other thing was to mix some cigarette ash in with the mayo - sorry, brain wasn't working!

Oh I've been told cigarette ash too! (but on it's own) Never tried it though as I've never smoked. I'd be interested to know if it really works.
