Has anyone got one of those rather expensive patio heaters or one of the new fangled Mexican oven/heaters called something like Chimineas? Are they any good?

I've no experience of buying/using one of these gadgets, but to me it seems a pretty pointless and environmently unfriendly idea to try and heat up the sky!

We have one - it is excellent. Even on a relatively chilly evening, you can comfortably eat outside.

croppy, do you have a patio heater or one of the chimineas? We've been thinking about one of these, but I'm not too sure about how safe it would be with the kids running around.

Croppy · 19/06/2001 09:26

We have a gas patio heater. It is really very heavy so would be extremely difficult to knock over and obviously the actual heat part is a good 6 foot off the ground so is safe from that perspective. In any case, ours is positioned behind our table and next to a wall so it's not really possible to run around as such where it is.

Croppy, that does sound better than the chimineas. Mind you, given that its pouring down here I'd probably be better off with one of those huge umbrellas!

Funnily enough Debsb, I saw an ad for one at the weekend that had a patio heater incorporated into the centre of a table with a specially designed unmbrella over the top!

Debsb · 19/06/2001 12:29

Croppy, sounds like it must have been designed from someone round here! Where did you see it?
