Want to do something special for Dad's 65th = any ideas?

My Dad's 65th birthday is next month and I'd like to arrange a nice surprise for him.
For both mum's 60th and 65th dad paid for the whole family to go away for the weekend as a surprise for mum.

We just went for a meal for dad's 60th so I'd really like to make his 65th special involving me and my siblings and also the grandchildren ages ranging from 5 to 16. (There will be 15 of us in total).

The trouble is I'm a lone parent and my db's do not earn much so would have to be on a budget.

Mum has cancer and I would like to make arrangements without having to involve her tbh.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hot air balloon trip? We went on one for my 30th birthday. I can't remember the cost but it was blardy marvellous.

We did a special 60th birthday for PIL.

Basically, we followed his life from birth to 60, visited everywhere he had lived, checked with current owners and took photos, went to lots of significant places from his life and took more photos, spoke with all sorts of people he had known throughout his life, family, friends, colleagues and had a chat with them then asked them to write a little note to him.

Finally, we gathered all the family photos we could find and put together a sort of 'This is Your Life' book for him starting with his birth and childhood and ending with his grandchildren leaving plenty of spare pages at the back for him to add his 'future'.

We then did a party at PILs house and invited lots of the people we had contacted, some of whom he hadn't seen for years. It didn't cost much, we divided the place visits and chats up between the family so it wasn't too time consuming for any single person to do and he loved it.
