Hi all,

I'm thinking of moving away for a fresh start, but i have no idea where to go.

Where i live now (Maidenhead berkshire)isn't the friendliest place.

When i go on holiday i always seem to get chatting to people. But in my home town, when you try striking up a conversation with someone (ie doctors waiting room, park, school playground etc) You get a look as if to say, what do you want???

People just seem to stand on their own, while waiting for their kids to come out of class.

So if you live somewhere nice and friendly, with good schools etc.
Please let me know....

I live in Sheffield and really like it. Moved here about 13 years ago. Can't imagine livng anywhere else now.

Niece - I posted on your other thread. I do think this is the way to start thinking, tough though it will be. It does sound like you need a fresh start.

Norwich - not originally, but for a long time now. Only downside is that you can't really be passing through - it's not on the way to anywhere. And transport links are shite. But the coast and the Broads no distance away, and are beautiful. Yes, people are friendly although wherever you are you'll always get some nutters.

Cheshire (not the WAG bit)- further West on the other side of the M6. Don't want to say where as it's a small place.

Really like it. Moved from SE a few ago and have no regrets. People are very friendly: impossible to go out and not have people say hello or smile at you. Great schools, fab countryside all around. Free town centre parking, the furthest north Waitrose (or at least it used to be)and the furthest south Booths.

You get the picture.

I'm in South Cheshire, sound like I'm near you smugmum! I moved into the area and I really like it, you will be pleasantly surprised by house prices coming from Berkshire, the schools here are very good, lovely countryside, and we're all very friendly

I have thought this over for a long time now, and can't seem to come up with another solution.

I don't mind nutters as long as they're friendly!!! lol
No seriously, where i live now isn't where i originally came from. People seem to stay friends with the people they grew up with.
Most of the people i talk to here are from other countries.

Cheshire sounds lovely, people do seem more friendly the further north you go.

I live in a village south of Lincoln and it is incredibly friendly. We live across the road from the park so spend quite a bit of time there (I make a coffee and carry it over to drink whilst DD2 plays) and I always strike up a conversation whilst I'm there.

We know loads of people in the village and all of our neighbours. It is a very community minded village which suits us perfectly.

Where I live it's about an hour into Birmingham, Manchester or Liverpool, if you want a big city. Chester is a lovely place to shop and that's about 25 minutes away. I'm in a quaint small market town with a good range of independent shops.

Lol - I say the place about as directly south as possible, and you say about how friendly it is as you get north

The house prices round here are ridiculous, the town centre is a dump, most of the shops are empty.
What am i waiting for, i should start packing now!!! lol

I will be sorry to move away from my friends though, i'm sure they will try and talk me out of it.

Shropshire is beautiful and friendly. Shrewsbury quite an arty boho type of town. The nearer the Welsh borders you get the cheaper the property (and the more lovely - but a bit remote hence price).

I live in a big town in Surrey, not too big, some cool shops, but I can walk everywhere I need to go and that's important for me. There are Bodeny bits and Pound shop bits so a good balance
