I posted earlier than my ds2 has really bad chicken pox. anyway he has been crying for hours and i cant take much more. have had to put him in his cot so i can calm down. im reaching the end of my tether - how can i stop him crying????

take a deep breath and try to calm yourself. it is so easy to loose control when you get this frustrated. can you put him somewhere safe and walk away for a few minutes? just till you can calm down enough to be able to tell yourself that he is not doing any of this 'to' you? and remind yourself that he's little and vulnerable and he needs you. he is probably picking up on your stress, do you think that is making him cry as well as the chicken pox?
have been to the end of my tether and then some myself btw, so not meant to judge you, but to pass on things that help me to not wack mine round the head!!! and hope they help you too.

Am I right in thinking that a wet nappy can make spots feel worse?

mytwopenceworth · 01/06/2005 20:31

oops X post. good, get yourself a drink and go 'phew'!!

Could you face breaking the time left till your dh gets back into chunks - e.g. say to yourself 'I'll have 10 minutes then go check ds'. I.e. ease the guilt feelings by knowing you will see him every 10 mins and ease the dread of seeing him by taking 10 mins, guilt free, to yourself. Count the time till dh is back in 10 min slots.

Agree that if you can ring dh, you should - he can get bicarb in the supermarket too!

MediSed always worked for DD. You have to ask the chemist at the counter for it, but it makes the baby sleep.

aloha · 01/06/2005 20:32

aw, he was tired! Leave him and try to relax. Bath? wine?

Magscat · 01/06/2005 20:32

Wow, postings going on so fast can't keep up.

Still quiet??

aloha · 01/06/2005 20:34

don't feel guilty. you didn't hurt him. he was clearly crying out of tiredness. sleep is what he needed, Relax!

No apologies necessary. We've all been there.
Fingers crossed for you for rest of the night. xxx

Katemum · 01/06/2005 20:56

Might be a good idea still to get some nurofen and keep it in the cupboard in case you need it over the next couple of days.
Look after yourself as well as your little one, enjoy the malibu

huggybear · 01/06/2005 20:57

Go and have a lie down and a stiff drink, huggybear! I hope you all have a quiet night and that he's feeling a bit better in the morning.

sunchowder · 01/06/2005 21:06

Oatmeal is the best, listen to WigWam on this when your little one wakes up. It will soothe him.

sammac · 01/06/2005 21:08

Also remember that you've hopefully had the worst day of chickenpox and tomorrow will be a much better day.
