HAPPINESS & LAUGHTER

Just to brighten things up a bit, what makes you really happy and what makes you laugh?

A nice sunny day for one

Two clean kids just out the bath with washed hair and in clean jamas ready for bed!

Laughter has to be Father Ted, Gimme Gimme Gimme, the toilet scene in the film Dumb and Dumber. Jo Brand is funny.

The Simpsons make me laugh everytime just watched the one about Lisa giving Bart and Homer leprosy by painting them with cereal and green paint. She told them the cure was that they had to clean the house as it was the dirty house causing the spots and Homer said "the cure sounds worse than the disease"!

A bit of peace & quiet makes me happy,so does keeping my kids happy. If they are happy then hopefully so am I.As for laughter Frasier,Graham Norton and I agree with you about the Simpsons. My hubby says I laugh like Marge.I feel so sorry for Homer sometimes as he really does try in his own way.

I watched a live rugby match the other day and the presenters came on at half time to discuss things. One of them on air said "he must have been sweating buttocks about that" (instead of buckets) he then said "ooh did I say buttocks" and they all fell about laughing as did I.

I think you had to be there!

Eddie Izzard, Graham Norton, my other half (constantly), the children (frequently), the stupidity of people (in not seeing the obvious ~ for of course I am always right HA HA)... my parents make me laugh (because we are all on different planets) and much to my disbelief Giles Brandraith (sp. sorry!) makes me laugh too... Have I got news for you, Just a minute, the news quizz (linda Smith and Jeremy Hardy are so funny)...I could go on...

As for what makes me happy... very simple things, my children (for a whole host of reasons), my partner (ditto), laundered white linen, the smell of coffee, garlic, the sea, a beautiful piece of music, a good book and a glass of wine, a mountain or a forest... and somtimes solitude and a piece of paper and some charcoal!

Winnie · 13/06/2001 08:19

Just thought I should add SEX. It makes me happy and frequently makes me laugh!!

My daughters giggles when you say 'bottom' especially when you pull a face. Don't know why its just this word though.

Harrysmum · 13/06/2001 12:59

Do you think that it's a girl thing finding Graham Norton so funny? He has me in absolute stiches and unable to speak while my husband finds it quite amusing but can take it or leave it. What else? I will always be won over if given another Calvin & Hobbes book - they make me giggle. As for being really happy? The end of the day when Harry is sleeping and looking like an angel, Keith being home from work and not too tired, good food, nice wine and realising just how lucky we are...

Tigger · 13/06/2001 14:12

Totally agree about the toilet scene in Dumb and Dumber, also daughter on sunday at my aunts, farted in the most noisy fashion, we all sat very quietly, and then, I looked round, she has tears running down her face giggling silently and we couldn't help ourselves. Another one, and this is our son and his "Shark" thing, went for a swin at the weekend when we were away in Edinburgh, husband just getting to the pool and son announces, "wait, daddy, I'll need to check the loo for sharks (toilet right next to entry to pool)next thing the toilet brush is rammed down the bog and the people who were in the pool were helpless. He then says, thats it daddy got him!

My husband makes me laugh, my kids, my friends, Dawn French, Billy Conolly, Friends, Simpsons, David Jason (Only Fools and Horses) Frasier, Ally McBeal. Laughter is good for you and I must admit to doing a lot of laughing, mainly at my own expense a lot of the time.

Lizzer · 13/06/2001 14:56

Oh just what I needed to cheer me up today as I'm on downer central! Just generally miserable, fat and trying to shake off virus. I think women find Graham Norton funnier too, least I do - maybe because it's the camp-ness of it all, maybe women just have better sense of humour! I love Spaced too but alas has finished now - it's so cleverly done. I've also been getting into League of Gentlemen, but that borders on the sick and twisted - but also v clever...
Happiness = sleeping/smiling baby, glasses of wine, good girly chin-wag, the last 2 minutes of step class, chocolate... (not neccesarily in that order!)

Happiness is watching my little boy waddling behind me in the garden copying me with his mini-watering-can!

and Bron it would make me smile to know how to do that smiley icon in your last message!

Lizzer · 13/06/2001 15:57

Yeah Bron -tell us how you do it!!!

Rhiannon · 13/06/2001 19:22

I'm a sucker for toilet humour, apparently there's a new film out full of it but can't remember what it's called.

League of Gentleman is brilliant. What about the one when the "stranger" escapes and Tubbs says "Edward get him" and Edward produces a cross bow and says "don't worry Tubbs he won't get far".

And the one wear Tubbs dances 'naked' around her strangers that they've tied up then she tars and feathers them. A bit sick really but soooo good.

Laughter - I never tire of watching Fawlty Towers/Blackadder/Father Ted/Only Fools ...
Friday night is definitely Frasier/Graham Norton night, just the tonic after a stressful week.
Happiness is ... sitting for ages just watching my son sleeping peacefully, the smell of freshly cut grass, sitting in the garden with a glass of wine at sunset listening to a blackbird singing.

Sylvev · 13/06/2001 22:08

Happiness: getting into a freshly-made bed with cool cotton sheets, curtains blowing in gentle breeze on a cool summers evening, (man optional but preferable). Watching my children enjoying being alive, endless energy and happy to run, jump etc. Large glass of chilled white wine, night out with the girls, that wonderful moment when I am dropping off to sleep and having my hair brushed!

Laughter: Ditto Graham Norton, Alan Partridge, Eddie Izzard, Frasier. I also love listening to my children having "sensible" conversations and hearing my 2 year old copying her brothers' (6) "rude" words!! I don't know how fashionable this is, but I do find Johnathan Ross amusing.

Happiness - Finally finding a wonderful man who makes your life complete (toy boy actually, even better). Watching my son and husband play and enjoying the precious time they have together. Watching my son splash in the bath and his wonderful smile. Riding my ponies walking the dogs. Chilling on the beach, watching my husband surf. Its mostly everything really, I have, at last, everything I have ever wanted (sorry if I have made you feel sick).
Laughter - The moment when you cant stop but you dont really know what you are laughing at.

Rhiannon · 14/06/2001 18:27

Joe, sounds lovely, where do you live?

OP posts:
Joe · 14/06/2001 21:48

Lizzer · 15/06/2001 14:50

Bron I'm going to use that from now on thanks!

Rhiannon · 15/06/2001 22:25

Happiness is Sunday mornings in bed with the paper. Warm croissants, two quiet children. Sunshine streaming through the bedroom window.

Winnie · 16/06/2001 07:46

Happiness is a warm (though wet!) summers evening, open windows and doors, candles lit, Verdi's Requiem and a glass of wine... or at least it was last night! How easy we all are to please...

Alexsmum · 16/06/2001 11:24
