MN bosses...is there any chance....

we can have a seperate Big Brother topic. I for one can't stand the show and already there are some large threads on it. Yes I know I don't need to read them but they take up so much space. Any chance we can have a sperate topic for it with the option of not including it like we do for chat and buying/selling.

It would only be for the next 12 weeks ish!!! Pretty please?

Thing is, can you imagine how complicated the "active conversations" links are going to be? It already has
All topics
Without chat
Without buying/selling
Without chat or buying/selling

so if you add "without BB" to all the combos, it's going to get ridiculous. And if you don't add it, there's no point having a separate board.

Soupdragon · 28/05/2005 12:59

Actually, I lounged about and read a book

Gwenick · 28/05/2005 12:59

but soupy - it's not going to be 'permanent' this other baby website that has a BB board only has it for the time BB is on, then the board disappears until next year........

Like I said I don't bother with the 'wihout' options usually - but I would if there was a 'no BB' one.

Soupdragon · 28/05/2005 13:03

But what about the people who always miss out "buying/selling" and don't want BB either?

I know it's not permanent, I'm just not entirely sure why, when you can get 200 active conversations up at a time, it's a huge problem to have a few BB threads? I didn't understand the reasons for chat/classified exclusions ether as it happens. There aren't going to be as many BB threads as For Sale, Chat etc. Just prefix all the thread titles with BB, let the non-interested parties ignore them and the sad, sad little BB fans read then .

Soupdragon · 28/05/2005 13:04

(fwiw, I don't actually care one way or another. I wouldn't use a "without" link, I'd just ignore the threads).

Gwenick · 28/05/2005 13:06

I think there WILL be a lot of BB threads and I be there'll be more BB ones than For Sale....- It's only just started and I believe there were 3 or 4 threads started just last night!!

my computer can easily cope with 200 topics in active convos' but some people's can't.....

SaintGeorge · 28/05/2005 13:10

If BB has it's own Topic (isn't MN the 'board'?) then at least you can remove it from the list to search if you use 'find new messages' rather than 'active convos'.

Sorry, lot of ' ' there!

Gwenick · 28/05/2005 13:10

anyhow 'outta here' for an hour or so - promised DS1 (4.5yrs) he could play games on the cbeebies website once his little brother had gone for nap.......which is now) And he's standing RIGHT next to me waiting patiently............

Guess I'd better do some 'real' stuff (or I could just watch the French Open on the TV LOL)

Gwenick · 28/05/2005 13:11

MN is the site

Board is Chat, For Sale, TTC etc etc

Topic/Thread is indivual threads.

SaintGeorge · 28/05/2005 13:13

Fair enough, though personally I would have said

MN = site
Talk = board
Chat/For Sale/TTC etc = Topic
Individual threads = threads!

God, I'm bored.

tamum · 28/05/2005 14:16

You're right, SG. It's definitely "topic" (scroll to the top to see!). I can't see what the problem is. There may have been a few threads last night, but other years there's just been one or maybe two ongoing threads about it. So easy just to ignore.

JoolsToo · 28/05/2005 14:38

why don't BB viewers go to Channel4's Big Brother site!

Fran1 · 28/05/2005 16:31

But joolstoo you could say that about every topic ever discussed here. Refer each subject to a specific website about it.

Then there would be no Mumsnet!

I think people talk about it here cos they're people they know, on BB site you wouldn't "know" those people not the same.

JoolsToo · 28/05/2005 18:09

oh I know - just thought its the official website so if you're really into it - that's the place to be!

dropinthe · 28/05/2005 19:34

I'm not really into it but liked to chat last night to other mnetters about the general crassness of it and taking it all in the very light hearted way that you must take it! To say it may take up "loads" of mn space is just stupid-just ignore the threads like you would ignore any thread you have no interest in and be sensible about it all,eh?

champs · 28/05/2005 19:49

hee hee saint george and gwenick... and what about Posts??? out tongue ]

darlingbud · 28/05/2005 21:52

I'm glad my post has gone on so long. I'm usually such a threadkiller.

KatieMac · 28/05/2005 22:23

I think that all the active conversations are a mistake

What needs to happen is that you set your favourites (like in the "New Messages") then hit Active Conversations

That way each person can pick the bits they want and lose the bits they don't.

JJmumsnet · 30/05/2005 15:33

Hi, we've decided against a seperate topic for BB, sorry! But we've put the idea of a customizable 'active conversations' search on the agenda for our next monthly meeting. Thanks for the ideas.

MarsLady · 30/05/2005 15:35

so I'm guessing that's a no on the separate Clive Owen and Dermot O'Leary boards then?
