Oven cleaning!

While we're on the topic ... I have a Neff oven with supposedly self-cleaning liners on the side, on which you are not meant to use anything but detergent. It has never been cleaned since we bought it 4 years ago and I am thinking it is probably about time. How do I do it? The stuff burnt onto the bottom looks impenetrable. The grill at the top seems to give off lots of smoke when used, but how do you clean that bit? The manual has a cryptic comment along the lines that you should not use any of the products designed for the purpose when the oven is warm - God knows what that means...

Clean the Oven ? !!!!

I've cleaned the chrome bits and wiped ours around with CIF - easier when warm - but still not really clean as you describe. I too have a "self cleaning" oven, I think, but as our instructions are in German,French or Italian it is not a job I've got around to either - I did buy some of that foam cleaner but I don't think that the instructions (from what little I can discern!)recommend it so never used it!

BTW how often should you change the filter in an extractor hood ? I know I could ask my neighbour but tbh I'm now too embarrassed having lived here for 2 years.

Sorry I can't be more helpful,

I thought that you had to put the self cleaning ovens on really really high and all the stuff burns off...? Does this sound feasible?

No it's not that kind of oven - instead it has liners which are meant to be easier to clean but they're not on the bottom of the oven (plus I think you are meant to remove them and then clean them separately?). If I could do it again I'd buy a frostfree fridge freezer and a self-cleaning oven...

edgarcat, I have never heard of those oven cleaning men - are they in the Yellow pages?
