my partner's stepson is coming to stay with us for a bit and his birthday will fall whilst he is with us. HE is feeling pretty surly about it as we don't live in the same town as his mates, so I want to give him a special time. As my kids are under school age I have only very shady ideas about what to get him. I thought I could take him cd shopping and bond with him that way but any ideas would be most helpful.

LOL at bonding over the CDs, syllabub.

DS1 is 16 (will be 17 in July) - he likes football, music (nothing extreme), DVDs, PS2 games - I could ask him for advice for you, but I think going out with him to buy things is probably the best idea to be sure to get things he likes.

Clothes are popular too of course but again he needs to be there. Good luck, hope his visit goes smoothly.

Driving lessons?

I'm afraid my ds would just want the moneynot the bonding!!

Not at 16, slug! (Am I correct in thinking that you originate elsewhere? NZ? Can they drive at 16 there?)

Mine prefers money to bonding too, lemonice, but it's not very special!

Skate Boarding is so popular here in the US, would that be an option?
