We've got long handles which dont work very well. Also check there are no pipes in the corner or the carousel won't go round

as much lighting as possible, people always underestimate it imo in kitchens. we're having some lights fitted under our wall cupboards soon (electrician left cables waiting and haven't got round to it for 2 yrs )
we have a pull out larder, ours is the full width (?60cm) but the narrower one a friend has is probably better than ours. we have a mix of shallow (top for cutlery) and deep (bottom for colanders, tupperware) drawers.

bp, a friend of mine said i'd put the metal baskets in the wrong way round when ours collapsed, and they haven't done since i changed them round

have found a good appliance place (as in cheaper than anywhere else)

but don't know how good they are in terms of delivery .. have ordered and they are very pleasant to deal with and I saved about £200 on a hob/sink/chimney hood order

do you want me to send you their details fish-face?

I got one in our previous house, I think that IKEA cabinets are considerably more sturdy than many other brands but they are also a bit difficult to install according to the builders who complained al week long about how little margin for error they had if the wall was not perfectly flat (?). But they had to recognise that it was very good value, and it looked lovely and more expensive than it was. My kitchen design teacher had one herself, she was always saying that the for "that" price IKE'a ones were the best option. However, that was many years ago and MFI and B&Q are much better than they were.

Whatever you do, don't go for a Moben Kitchen.

PS> How wide is the plate of the straightener (if stil in auction). Sorry for the hijack

i know, bp, her dad pointed this out to her like it was obvious

Watching with interest as will probably want to one in the autumn - likely to be on a smaller scale than Chez Coddy.

Who do you get to install an Ikea kitchen and do they deliver the cabinets etc ? Are sizes compatible with appliances from elsehere ?

Cod, I just updated the range cookers thread with some info yesterday. Please check if you like.

Cod, how can you order it so quickly??? I did months of research before I did anything. So pleased for you. Do some links as to what you are picking out, I would love to see.

Enid · 26/05/2005 14:12

it was in magnet

bakedpotato · 26/05/2005 14:14

Cod, make sure you get Ikea's own cutlery-sorter insert for cutlery drawer. They're brill and only £1.55 or whatever.
Would also recommend wider width of drawers.
(Bundle, due to the heatwave, I simply can't be ar*ed to empty the larder shelves to reverse baskets. Think I'll wait until they collapse again, job will be half done then.]

bundle · 26/05/2005 14:18

bp, good idea. and you can take end off vacuum and simply suck away any stray dried legumes/pasta. it's cooled down a bit here in the last hr but kwym about the heat..

agree re: the drawer sorter thingy. we gave our old stainless steel useless one to dd for her pens/paintbrushes on her easel

Chandra · 26/05/2005 14:22
