this might sound daft but its worrying me,my mum is coming to visit wich im over the moon about but although i know for a fact that she loves my ds(5)and dd (nearly 3)the same she does have a special bond with dd not just because shes the only grandaughter but because she was at the birth as well,my son has picked up on this on other occasions itll be just little silly things and im sure shes not aware but its not fair as hes a lovely little boy,now i dont know how to put it to her so i dont upset her,has anybody experienced this?

yes, with MIL, only its with my bro is laws kids she plays favourite. sorry to say i cant bear family tension and so have just kinda accepted thats the way it is - however MY mum knows the score and so goes OTT with the love.

so maybe this is one solution - that your ds have a special person too, maybe a friend or something - someone who knows the score.

Can you talk to her about it. I know it is easier said than done as you don't want to offend her as she may not see there is a problem but let her know your thoughts and that you see it hurts your ds. Not much help at all is it, sorry.

Could you suggest that she takes your ds out for the day/afternoon on his own - let her discover how lovely he is for herself.

thank you all for the advice,i had a word with her on the way from the airport and she was horrified,she really,really didn`t know that my ds felt that way and that she was pleased i told her i think some time with him like you suggested would be good as well,thanks again
