Recommend me some radio programmes

Have just been bought DAB radio by lovely DH for my Birthday , so can leap around the schedules and stations with gay abandon.

Does anyone have any good programmes to recommend? Am in the London area for local radio.

Radio 4 and Radio 7. TBH my DAB is always on Radio 4! There is usually something funny on at 6:30 pm (especially on Monday & Friday) and the afternoon play can be very good (2:15 - 3pm). Woman's Hour is fantastic, I think Jenni Murray is one of the best broadcasters there is. That's 10 - 11 every morning.

Ooh what's Radio 7 then?

Agree with the 6.30 Radio 4 slot, and Radio 7.

My fave prog at the moment is Robert Elms on Radio London, 12-3pm weekdays. I also like lots of R4 but hate You and Yours, Home Truths, Gardeners' Question Time...... Mixed feelings about Woman's Hour, depends what's on and love Veg Talk when its on. Radio 7 is good if you've got digital as its all the comedy shows, plays and book readings from R4 and Onetel (?) is good too my sister says.

I'm probably a bit of a TOG. I listen to Radio 2 all day.

Davros and I have exactly the same views on radio 4!
I like book at bedtime and book of the week on R4.
I HATE the Archers.

I also like listening to Andy Kershaw's world music programme on radio 3 - if you like that kind of thing.

I'm with surfermum - Tog to the core. I love Steve Wright in the afternoon on Radio2 but the best programme in terms of THE best music is Richard Alinson on a saturday afternoon on Radio2

Jonathan Ross on Radio 2 on a Saturday morning (10 - 1 I think), always has me chuckling!

A TOG is "Terry's Old Git", ie someone who listens to Terry Wogan. You can be a TYG too.

Jonathan Ross makes me PMSL. I did it on Saturday and I was sat at some traffic lights. I didn't dare look at anyone in the other cars.

Late Junction on R3 10.15pm. Used to LOVE it but can't stay up that late now. If you're an owl... I just like the way the presenter will say 'And now, some Japanese nose flute music, and after that, the latest offering from Norwegian folk composer Tichbo, reinterpreted by the Malian Grandmothers' Choir' and it's all quite a nice late-night vibe.

Jonathan Ross is good for the chat but he plays some crap music!

Radio 7 is a lot of the best old comedy from Radio 4.

Davros, I can't disagree with you more about Veg Talk. When I was in labour with ds1 it was Friday lunchtime, and I decided that I would listen to The Archers and the afternoon play but go into hospital at 3pm just to avoid Veg Talk (although actually my waters then broke at 2:30, so I missed the play!)

My DAB really annoys me. I'm a "radio 4 on in every room" kind of girl when I'm being domesticated and running around doing housework. But the DAB is about a second out, so you don't get the pure stereo effect around the house.

Good mn topics too - Fenchurch was conceived in a queue for the ticket office at (inevitably) Fenchurch St Stn.

I listen to loads on R4 during the week - everything already mentioned really.

I find it can go a bit pear shaped after Home Truths on a Saturday (was best when John Peel did it, of course). Saturday is great on R2. Jonathan Ross is very good, but please please listen to the programmes following him 'The Smith Lectures' and 'Parsons and Naylor' are very funny. Then yummy Dermot O'Leary is on after that playing excellent music.

Can you tell I just love the radio?!
