I'm fascinated by what people choose to name their children (proper names rather than nicknames I mean) -has anyone chosen a name that they now regret or have 'gone off', or named their child from a tv program or celebrity etc... ?

A client who used to ring my friend's office was called Richard Scratcher.... I also knew a woman with the unfortunate surname "Onions", and she married a guy with the surname "Leek". No joke..

My caretaker at school was called Mr Tidy. Always wondered whether the name influenced his career choice. I used to work with an American called John A Wanker, and my husband has a client called Richard Cummin-Bruce - poor Bruce

In duller moments at work, we used to trawl the internal directory for silly names. There was a Ronald McDonald.

Do you want fries with that?

I remember a dinner lady at primary school called Mrs Smiley, who was very grumpy and made us finish up our cabbage. And there was a teacher at the same school called Miss Moody, who was very nice.

I thought my secretary was winding me up a few weeks ago when she told me I had visitors to see me: McCartney and Lennon! Pity they didn't look as good as their namesakes...

sprout, presumably you mean "lookED as good" particularly in the case of the latter (I know I'm sick)
