hi
this is bizarre i know, but if i phoned dh he'd laugh at me. was just going out this morning and as I was about to close my gate I noticed a swarm of hundreds of tiny yellow spiders on a web just at the gate latch. freaked out and tried not to drop ds but did not touch gate again! when i came back they'd all huddled together in a cluster and didn't move. what the heck are they and why did they pick my garden? can I /should I kill them all?????

Bobsmum, they are newly hatched spiders! I don't know what variety they are, but they are very common. Pleeeeeease don't kill them!

Bobsmum · 07/05/2003 16:11

won't kill them, but they just looked rather scary and exotic.

They are a very poisonous hybrid of the species 'orridellowspider', if I were you I would stomp on them all as hard as you can! Before they infest your house with their skin-burrowing antics!

Despite my protesting, dh has killed the hundreds of spiders - horrible horrible man actually set light to them -feel physically sick. Didn't like them much, especially when several set up home in ds' nappies on the washing line, but hey live and let live. Don't feel quite so smugly environmentally friendly at the mo.

Men are heartless like that sometimes, aren't they bobsmum?! Poor little things.. oh well, at least you don't have to worry about them anymore.

We had a snake in our garage the other night, and we also get rather large lizards swimming in our pool sometimes... not to mention all the hundreds of different species of spiders around the place (some of them HUGE). Have to be very 'environmental' to live around here.
