Just setting this one up. Don't like her, think she has 'something of the night ' about her. I could be being irrational, hope to be proved smugly right. Anyone else be watching?

What time is it on Tinker? I would not mind watching it. Like you she makes my skin crawl and a bleedin goldigger!!!I dont like McCartney too much either. Sure he is a great songwriter/singer but he is so irritating. I thought Linda was lovely inside and out. There was a woman who stood for her principles. (unless someone out there knows different)

Tinker · 07/05/2003 13:56

Channel 4 10.00, I think. I'm sure the programme will have an agenda but....love this kind of thing.

Can't believe there wasn't a thread about Madonna on Jonathan Ross. Didn't want to start one in case people think I am obsessed with the woman which must disguise a latent appreciation

Apparently the program is unauthorised by Heather and is very biased - interviewing her ex-husband's family etc. Take it with a pinch of salt!

WideWebWitch · 07/05/2003 14:08

Tinker, 'something of the night' ha ha, are you turning into your mum with phrases like that? IKWYM though, I didn't like her on Parkinson at all, thought she seemed hard as nails. I saw Madonna, we can talk about it here, can we not? I reckon she's pregnant and she seemed a bit nervous which was odd. Those trousers were AWFUL - I couldn't believe how big her thighs looked in them and I'm sure she doesn't have big thighs. I think Jonathon was nervous too and not as funny as usual as a result. I do like him though. A bit disappointing I thought. hmm, not sure what I think about Madonna really.

Tinker · 07/05/2003 14:17

Just love that 'something of the night' phrase and like to use it at any opportunity. But, yes, 'hard as nails' sums up my feelings about her. Didn't like her before she hooked up with PM and his kids not liking her may (or may not) be revealing.

Madonna's thighs were, indeed, enormous. Hadn't thought about her being pregnant but you'll be more in tune with these things at the moment (being pregnan I mean, not huge thighs ) Can't stand her myself, seems utterly humourless and was nervous, I think, cos Wossy can be a loose cannon. Think he'd LOVE to be part of her gang though.

Nutjob · 07/05/2003 14:38

I'm another one who doesn't like Heather Mills, obviously I don't know her, but she makes my skin creep and as you say she seems hard as nails. I LIKE PM myself, but don't know WHAT he sees in her.

northernlass1 · 07/05/2003 15:21

nutjob

I agree I really don't like her at all - I try to as I think she has a hard time but I just think she comes across as arrogant and hard - Madonna used to have that effect on me but warmed to her recently after watching her on Jonathen Ross.

layla · 07/05/2003 16:47

Drat,I missed the Madonna interview and really wanted to see it as I love celebrity and Jonathan Ross can appear quite rude sometimes.I was looking forward to seeing them clash.Ooh it's nice to hear she has big thighs bitch bitch.Tinker I mentally collect sayings and I love that one tooShall defo be watching this tonight cheers.

happyspider · 07/05/2003 21:27

Madonna looks like she's gone all girly and sweet since she's found real luurve...damn I used to fancy Guy as well long time ago, saw him in London once but he did not get the same feeling I got... that we were meant to be together.

It might sound as sour grapes, but I didn't like Madonna and I don't like her...

kaz33 · 07/05/2003 21:31

Think Madonna is a bit on the tight side when it comes to money. So thumbs down.

Heather Mills and McCartney - both yeuch. Beatles were over rated and as for the solo stuff, pass me the sick bag.

jasper · 07/05/2003 23:27

I am a huge admirer of Heather Mills and have been for years long before she was ever seriously famous.
She used to do an agony aunt spot on Richard and Judy and was frankly amazing. One troubled girl ran away from home and phoned the programme. HM took her into her own home for several weeks and got her back on the straight and narrow.
The charity work she has done for victim of land mines is amazing but this of course was glossed over in the prog.
I knew the press would turn against her when she started going out with PM.
Tonight's programme was a typical tabloidy stitch up but even at that they could not come up with too much against her.
Ask yourselves the following - if you ever became famous would these programme makers be able to drag some people from your past who would be willing to put forward a negative view of you?
I have lived a very ordinary life but they would not have to dig too deep to have me absolutley trashed!

pupuce · 08/05/2003 07:53

Well put Jasper

Libby65 · 08/05/2003 08:11

I saw her on Parkinson and even though my initial impression was that she seemed a bit hard and humourless, I was very impressed with the way she has handled all her adversity. She has shown great courage with all that she has gone through, and I don't think I could have handled it anywhere near as well as she has. How many of us would still possess her positive outlook and level of confidence after losing a leg, not to mention having cancer and a difficult childhood?? I can understand her bitterness toward the media and I don't think people can ever understand what negative media attention is like until it happens to them.

Tinker · 08/05/2003 09:16

Well, I actually fell asleep before the end. Agree that it was obviously a muck-raking exercise and , yes, you only have to dig a millimetre to find a lot of badness in me.

bossykate · 08/05/2003 10:18

i saw it too. main impression was not of the duplicity of hm but the evident sour grapes of the participants!

Absolutely, Jasper!
The programme made me cringe because I was imagining how a few barstewards I know would easily be able to twist certain portions of my life story. Mt own stepfather would never do that to me, but if he was of a mind to, he often had no idea where I was or what I was doing day to day, so could swear blind I hadn't lived under the arches when I might have done (I haven't!).

And as for Heather's step-father, what sort of person is complicit in the abandoning of (3?) children to the 'care of a man who is known to be volatile? I wouldn't take his word as gospel. I admire Heather too, and although I think that she seems hard, after the childhood she's had, I imagine her choice was to either develop a tough exterior or go under. Maternal abandonment rarely leaves one unchanged.

As for ex-boyfriends - Jeeeze, the stich-up jobs one or two of them could do on me doesn't bear thinking about. Her ex-husband was super-creep and I wouldn't imagine he was brilliantly acquainted with the truth either.

HM may or may not be a lying superbitch, but this programme proved nothing either way.

Rhiannon · 08/05/2003 17:10

Apparently she said she wanted to marry someone rich. Well whooppee, how many people can honestly say they've never said that.

She set up her charity 9 years ago, way before McCartney's time. Good luck to her I say. I'm sure we've all done thinks we're not proud of.

snickers · 08/05/2003 19:30

I just thought that I didn't know enough about her to know whether I liked or disliked her, and so when I watched it, I kept thinking "So? SO?" and also felt that they didn't really make any sort of point really (but also fell asleep before the end - riveting viewing obviously!). Having known little about her, I thought that if they could find a few people (which they did) who said such great things about her (and not just her bestest friends), then I figured that I didn't know whether I could honestly say that if a programme maker made a docu on me, that they couldn't find a bunch of strangers that praised me but they probably could find a whole bunch of exfriends/exlovers/exacquaitances who would be most willing to slate me but then that's most people isn't it? Dull dull so-called entertainment from the teevee people who are increasibly running out of ideas to entertain us... Afterall, apparently primetime telly amounts to "I'm a c-list celeb, give me a job please".

In these moments, I wonder when they will start running a game show along "the running man" theme, because it probably won't be long. Yikes.

bundle · 10/05/2003 06:13

don't like Heather Mills - she tried chatting up dh on the heathrow express once (ages ago - long before Paul Macca) - and lied to him about her job! ok - she said she 'made' programmes (he's in the media too) ie implying she was the producer or something when she was just a lowly reporter/presenter on Meridian local telly. okay maybe only a white lie but sets the pattern of her slightly fictionalised life story. dh was surprised I knew who she was (too much Hello! reading ) and didn't believe me for ages that she had only one leg!

WideWebWitch · 10/05/2003 11:17

Snickers, I reckon I'm a celeb get me out of here is practically Running Man...

SueW · 20/05/2003 22:45

I think HMM is putting her side of the story on BBC1 tonight. Now. I'm here and just about to go and watch it.

Tinker · 21/05/2003 01:09

Watched it - still can't warm to her. She seems to have adopted some of his mannerisms and expressions I thought. Was waiting for a thumbs up.

OP posts:
SueW · 21/05/2003 07:44

Tinker, it has always struck me how similar they look. Perhaps they are made for each other!

aloha · 21/05/2003 10:32

As I recall, nobody liked Linda McCartney either, before she died, when suddenly everyone loved her. She was hated for marrying him, derided for her hair, looks, vegetarianism etc. And she also seemed to have no discernable sense of humour. It seems Paul genuinely prefers difficult, determined, slightly humourless, tough, blonde women. And he does seem very happy with her, so I suppose that's all that counts.
