Unwanted visitors...mice, what do I do.

just wanted some advice.

We live in a house and noticed over the past few days mice appearing in the evening, my parter often gets up for work at 4 am and can here them scuttling about.

What is the best way to get rid of them for good.

We are not dirty people, live in a clean house.

ring the council or rentokil. Not sure how much they charge but you want rid of them as the breed very quickly.

Traps work for us. Poison is good too if placed safely, but now we have two cats and don't use poison anymore if we're unlucky enough to get uninvited guests!. The cats are a great deterrant too!

No need to say your not dirty, beleive it or not, mice aren't that keen on dirty places.

We have had problems too as we live opposite corn fields, i once found a hole in a packet of cereal what they had nibbled through and it was the size of a 5 pence piece so it shows you what size hole they can get through.

We got lots of traps and put them with poison under floor boards and in cupboards where there was no food.

We have battled with mice on and off for a couple of years. Last year we found where they were getting in (hole in the fireplace) so we sealed it up and had no further problems until a couple of months ago. We managed to catch the mouse (seems to have been just one as no sign of any since) with a humane trap. We had varying success with the humane trap last year but sometimes the mice are just too clever so only the "snapper" type will do ( I left this to dh!)

I would try to find out where they are coming from if you can as even if you manage to catch the ones you've got, they will keep coming back.

Btw - our house is clean too!! (Most of the time )

We have these too and interested in the replies, I did see on This morning the other day, that the only need a hole the width of a pencil and they can get through it.

Hi I must admit I am very sqweemish when it comes to mice. Someone has mentioned poisin, but do they die as soon as they have taken them, or do they go back back to nest and die. I dont want to wake up one morning and find a room full of dead mice, and if they do go back to the nest, do the rotting bodies smell?

We have recently had mice in the kitchen too - some garages a few houses down the road were knocked down to make way for new houses and we think that the mice were evicted from there and came to stay with us! We found that they had been eating polenta from a bag in a storage basket - they'd nibbled through the bag. We caught 3 over 3 days (or one, a homing-mouse that would do anything for a ginger biscuit!) but since then we've not had any more, so I think that is probably that. We used humane traps baited with ginger biccies - all I had in the house, but it seemed to work. The box suggested chocolate or peanut butter, but I don't keep peanut butter in the house and no mouse was getting my chocolate!

I avoided poison for much the same reason, and I couldn't quite square up being heavily pregnant with snapping their necks in half (!), so I went for the humane traps. They're a lot more expensive (about 5 pounds each as opposed to one pound fifty) but to me it was worth it. We live in the country, so the chances are that this won't be the only lot we'll ever come across, and least this type I could leave out with children roaming about if I had to.

God! I hate mice... I don't what it is, maybe the way they scurry about! I have always lived in old tenement flats and they just seem to get everywhere...

I have been the cleanest I have ever been (which is pretty fecking clean!) in my most recent place and I was so gutted when I saw my first mouse! They are not too bad yet though...

I don't know what is best, have done traps and poison and both often end up with dead bodies lying around which I find revolting!

you can get these traps that use old tins, and are humane too, i will see if i can find it on here,

We had to use nasty traps that killed them. We caught about 7 by putting chocolate on the trap.

I reported them to HA and they sent rentokill round. They put poison down and reassured me the mice would not die in the house. When rentokill came back 2 weeks later, there was no sign of any mice.
