Does anybody know about cotton weight in t-shirts?

am looking for some good quality cotton t-shirts, have just been quoted on 160gsm and have no idea what that means

what would be a nice heavyish cotton weight for pure cotton t-shirt???

anyone?

this would really make me believe mumsnet is all powerful and all knowing

gsm -grams per SQ metre. 160 is quite thin. A good quality would be around 200grammes. HTH.

gsm stands for grams per square meter. How this equates to a cotton knit I'm not sure, but I do know that a 200gsm fabric is quite heavy, so I would think that 160gsm is quite a decent weight. If you have an old t-shirt, cut a bit out of it, measure it and weigh it, and then multiply the weight up and you will get an indication of what a knit comes out at. Otherwise try the Textile Institute, their website may be able to help you.
